Mind Flayer brain extraction question.

First Post
What happens to said brain when it is extracted? Is it digested or what? I ask because a character in my current campaign just had his brain extracted after being mindblasted and stunned. But the Mind Flayer wasn't killed since he planeshifted away at 1 hitpoints. Assuming he took time to heal and come back and try to sneak against the party and assuming they killed him would it be possible to retrieve the brain and insert it back into the PC's body for a raise dead spell (my Cleric isn't high enough level to cast resurrection and raise dead requires a whole body)? Thanks in advance.

It's been a while since I looked at The Illithiad, but if I recall correctly, after opening the brain pan with its tentacles, the illithid masticates the brain matter using its lamprey-like jaws; from there it passes down the esophagus to its stomach (if such terms can be properly applied to an alien creature such as the illithid).

Oh... right, sorry.

Personally I would say 'no', that the brain matter gets digested. However, though, I'm no expert, and I hardly ever play anyway.

Brain is eaten, it's gone, I'm afraid the player either has to roll up a new character, or the party has to shell out the clams for a resurecction.
