Mind Flayer ecology and related creatures

Dragon Magazine #76(?) (the psionics issue) had the original Ecology of the Mind Flayer.
Dragon #150 had a few more articles on mind flayers and also some of their pets. These articles came before the Illithiad, and are more of a 1st Edition point-of-view.

Still, the Illithiad and the Unveiled Masters are also great.

And of course "Lords of Madness" to be released soon by WotC.

The 2e Ithiliad is probably all you'd ever need.

it'll be my main source, i'm sure, but i don't want to limit myself. :)

There was an older Dragon magazine, the Sunless Realm or something, that talked aboutt he Illithid's true goals and their many minions.

yes, that was an excellent one, circa Dragon #150.

i'm gathering up a list of illithid-related creatures from official sources in 3E. let me know if i'm missing something!

-Illithid grafts (Fiend Folio p. 212, Underdark p. 77)
-Illithid symbionts (Dragon Magazine #308, p. 54)
-Voidmind Creature template (Monster Manual 3, p. 187)
-Elder brain (Underdark, p. 84)
-Half-Illithid/Mindwitness (Underdark, p. 89)
-Ineffable Horror (Underdark, p. 91)
-Brain golem (Fiend Folio, p. 85)
-Duergar, Psionic (Expanded Psionics Handbook, p. 195)
-Githyanki, Psionic (Expanded Psionics Handbook, p. 198)
-Githzerai, Psionic (Expanded Psionics Handbook, p. 199)
-Mind Flayer, Psionic (Expanded Psionics Handbook, p. 204)
-Half-Illithid Template (Underdark, pg. 90-91)
-Larval Flayer (Dragon Magazine #318, p. 91)
-Paragon Mind Flayer (Epic Level Handbook, p. 208)
-Alhoon (Illithilich) (Monsters of Faerun, p.89)

Illithid Prestige Classes:
Illithidkin (Dragon Magazine #296, p.48)
Illithid Savant (Savage Species, p. 77)
Soul Eater (Book of Vile Darkness, p. 66)
Illithid Body Tamer (Underdark, p. 35)

The following series of three modules for AD&D had quite a bit about the history of the illithid empire:

#9570 - A Darkness Gathering
#9571 - Masters of Eternal Night
#9572 - Dawn of the Overmind

'Dead Gods' from Planescape, and its associated death of Maanzicorian. Additionally, 'Guide to the Astral Plane' has some bits about the ancient, planespanning Illithid empire.

thanks. :) i wish i had more space to write about all those neat ecology things... but alas, i have run out and need to be brief. :( oh well, no biggie, the monster manul + Illithiad should be enough. ;) anyone have more 3E sources for illithid monsters?

There's also a bit about illithid in the Forgotten Realms suppliment Lords of Darkness. I forget how much is actually there, as I've not read it for some time.

Those were supposed to be used along with the Illithiad - a pretty cool concept, that Monstrous Arcana thing (sourcebook + a series of three adventures focusing on one monster).

An alternate history of the mind flayers was presented in the Spelljammer box "The Astromundi Cluster."
