Mind Flayer tactics?

A shield Gaurdian would be my personal favorite. It's under his complete control, immune to his attacks, can protect him from melee, and can store a spell for emergency use. Repair Critical Damage anyone? They are also good in a fight.

A Cleric would be good, too. He could stand up in combat, healing and buff spell, good Will saves, and a good compliment to the Mind Flayer's Arcane/Psionic abilities. Add Animate Object, and let the fun begin.

Mindflayers plane shift to an alternate material plane. They then astrally project to this material plane, forming a second body there for the purpose... so even if they "kill" the mindflayer, it is not actually dead - it's spirit simply returns to the other plane.

I pulled this one on my players. They'll be shocked when they have to fight the EXACT SAME Mind Flayers all over again.
