Miniature count in new basic game ??

"No! It's the dreaded Aramil beast. Flee for your lives!!"

Just a nit, but did anyone else notice this:

(From http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20040815a )

Here's What You'll Find Inside

16 fully painted miniatures
Regdar, Adventurer
Lidda, Adventurer
Aramil, Adventurer
Eberk, Adventurer
Medium Black Dragon
Troglodyte
Dire Rat
Wolf Skeleton
(2) Warrior Skeleton
(2) Orc Warrior
(2) Kobold Warrior
(2) Kobold Skirmisher
4 double-sided map tiles
4 character cards
7 dice
Quick-Start Rules
First Adventure Book
Advanced Rulebook

Hey, you get 16 minis with the thing, 14 of which are monsters you'd want multiples of -- couple that with some new dice and the map tiles, and you've got reason enough to pick it up.

The black dragon is nice, but I doubt most folks 'want' to buy it multiple
times. That leaves only eleven monsters, not fourteen, and even if you
count the dragon that's only twelve.

Did I miss something?

What's with Aramil & Eberk?

Sure, Eberk was in the original D&D Adventure Game, and he's in PHB #1, but who's this Aramil dude?

And boy, do I wish they sold non-randomized packs of minis!

Aramil is an Elf Sorcerer

His statcard:
CG M Elf Sorcerer 3
HD 3, hp 18, Init +3, AC 13 (t13, ff10), Spd 30', Atk Sword +1m (1d8-1/19-20) or bow +5rg (1d8-1/x3); SA/SQ: Elf Traits, low-light vision; SV F+2, R+5, W+5; S8, D16, C11, I10, W12, Ch15.
SK/F: Conc +6, Lis +5, Srch +8, Spell +6, Spot +5.

Spells: Known (6/6): 0-daze, det magic, flare, light, r mag, 1st-mag armr, mag missile, ray enfeeblement

Gear: Mwk lbow, mwk lsword, cloak of resistance +1, potion of cure mod (3), scroll of invis.

###

Basically, they wanted to use the Sorcerer class rather than the Wizard class in the basic game (an excellent idea), so a new iconic sorcerer was created. An elf, to get the four main races in.

Regdar - Human Fighter
Aramil - Elf Sorcerer
Lidda - Halfling Rogue
Eberk - Dwarf Cleric

Cheers!

But no goblins. Somehow, that seems odd for a Basic Game. Every Basic Game needs goblins.

"Bree-yark!"
Its just proof that my evil army of Kobolds has retaken its foothold within the officies of WotC...soon, ALL shall bow to them! Erm...;)

Well, I can't claim to be most people, but I have one of the black dragon minis already and I'd like another. Medium size dragons just aren't intimidating enough on their own, especially not if you have a large group. But a mated pair might be just right.

Troglodyte
Dire Rat
Wolf Skeleton
(2) Warrior Skeleton
(2) Orc Warrior
(2) Kobold Warrior
(2) Kobold Skirmisher

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should write that, since I'd like to have a couple.
But, how many times would you pay $6 for the black dragon and how
many times would you pay $6 for all of the other monsters? I'd like one
more black dragon, but I'd like several more trogs, rats, warrior
skeletons, orcs, and kobolds. (I can live without the wolf skeletons.)
