Miniatures suggestions for a d20 Modern adventure

First Post
Most of what I own are orcs, elves or dragons.

Can anyone recommend good minis or mini stand-ins for a d20 modern adventure?

I'm looking at some of the Axis and Allies figurines now out. Any suggestions? Besides Pente pieces, M&Ms or dice?

The flavor of the game I'm running is a Special Ops group run in a contemporary setting.

check out mongoose's battlefield evolution line ( http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/series.php?qsSeries=47 )that's due out shortly, plently of pre-painted goodness coming for modern military games. Pull the heroclixs off their bases and the thugs, goons, cops, sheild agents, and other non-super looking figs work well for modern games. i'm sure someone else will come along and list some other sources for you.

Recently while shopping at Target, I saw a number of Army Miniatures that would be very nice for Modern games, especially those games with a military slant.

In metal, browse through some of the categories of the minis available here:
http://www.thewarstore.com/
This is just one place, and I am sure others might recommend other outlets. Looks specifically at Shadowrun or even Rezolution 2175AD for some very good 'moderns'.

Cool, what scale are the target army miniatures?

Thanks,

Get some Heroscape (Hasbro minis game) miniatures from the secondary market. They have men in black, US army, gunslingers (western), swat looking guys and Charlie's angels looking girls.

The stands are about 1.25" so you might want to whack them off the stands and put them on 1" bases if you use the grid.

Thanks,
Rich

Can't say that I remember the exact scale, but at a glance looked roughly the same as typical minis of metal/plastic made for rpgs. I looked at them and thought to myself, "these are perfect for d20 modern", but alas, I am still recovering from Christmas shopping expenses - so they are out of the question for me at this time. I don't even remember the manufacturer, although I am sure someone else here probably knows.

i'm a big fan of the stand-Ins printable paper figures. You can ge tthem at: http://enworld.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=2249&

it's a superhero and modern set, but even ignor ing the supeheroes its worth the $12. It has an average rating fo 4 of 5, and is a silver pick.

Just for Modern, it has police, soldiers, kids, japanese school girls, vampire slayers, commandos, people in suits and.or work clothes, a teacher, a commedian, cultists in three colors, and even cowboys. And those are all in color. There are also like 200 more b&w firgures all for the same price.

And even some of the superheroes work for modenr games. there are guys with guns and pistols and such. Cloaked mystery men. People in body armor. Even a gargantuan ape.

The scif-fi set (http://enworld.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=2362&) is another good choice. it has robots, remotes, tecyh ninja, mechanics, smuglers, and lots of people in body armor and people in what could easily be adventuring clothes (jackets and elbow-pads, blasters that could be tasers or pistols). And while it has slightly fewer figs, they are all in both color and b&w, which is great.

While not the best sculpting on the planet Mega Miniatures has a line of inexpensive modern figures, running about a dollar apiece.

Discount Hobby is discontinuing the Urban War miniatures line at 40% off, the blisters for the militia are quite nice, though I do not care for the rest of the series.

The Auld Grump

Some of the Heroclix figs are appropriate to non-superhero modern settings, though you might want to find new bases for them.

Also, I've heard good things about Fiery Dragon's Counter Collections, some of which are suitable for modern settings.

That's ok, I haven't been to Target since before Christmas, so now I have an excuse to go there.
