Minion with Resist?

My question is, why?

Sure it works, but why make it a minion, instead of say, giving a non-minion regeneration, or... whatever?

It can actually work quite well on a minion as long as the resist compares reasonably to the damage potential at that level.

I've used resist on minions once - for swarm minions. I gave them resist 10 all and vuln 10 area and close attacks. So any area or close one shotted, and other attacks had to work for it. It did let them ignore a number of automatic damage effects too.

I've been debating a personal house-rule on minions related to this:

Remove minions "take no damage on a miss" and replace it with "Minions have resist all except 1 damage type equal to X ".

The tricky part is figuring out what X is.

I made some level 6 minions that the PCs fought that had Resist 10 All except for Radiant. (They were demons in the theme of David Edding's demons from the Elfstones of Shannara, but it would work just as well with undead). The things pretty much couldn't be killed except by a direct hit or someone with radiant power.

I was thinking X equal to 1/2 level since minions work pretty well at lower levels and are still a threat, but as the party levels, there's more and more AoEs and auto-damage effects that make them pretty weak.

psst: Terry Brooks!

Also, that's an interesting idea for minions.

I like the concept, but not the execution. The problem is that this sort of thing will likely make it so only one member of the party can kill the minions... which makes for sort of an unfair table situation. Could be fine if you mixed up an encounter with multiple enemies that were targeted for each player.
