Mirror Image and light sources

Hypersmurf

Mirror Image is a figment. Figments cannot, among other things, "illuminate darkness"... hence the errata of spells like Continual Flame to Evocation instead of Illusion.

If a caster using MI is holding a torch, presumably his torch will be illuminating darkness, while his figments' torches will not?

If a MI'd caster is his with a Faerie Fire, will it become obvious which is the real caster and which the figments by the lack of illumination from the flames on the figments?

The images look like they're holding a lit torch but it doesn't shed light. Since all the images are milling next to each other and the caster it doesn't matter. You can't pick the real torch out.

Yes, Faerie Fire will work that way.

I came across this in my game. In a rare moment of attention to detail I noticed the light argument with regard to mirror image.

If you'd like a nice 'victory' moment for a PC, give that PC a spot check to realize the enemy mage's mirror images don't produce light. Spotting something like that is something that tends to happen in stories, but doesn't happen enough in game. Perhaps a DC somewhere around 20?
