I like the callback to the very first movie with the knife that falls from Krieger's hands and into the secure room during the Langley infiltration sequence. My guess is that the guy who was the operator in the room who Kiteridge reassigns to a remote arctic outpost ("Mail him his clothes...) plays a part in helping Ethan get to the downed Russian sub, Sevastopol from Dead Reckoning.

While this might be that last M:I that McQuarrie is involved in (GOD I HOPE NOT) Cruise has said that he'd like to continue playing the character for a while longer. I do feel that this might be a swan song for some of the characters who have been around for a while like Luther Stickle (M:I) or Benji Dunn (M:I - III). Especially considering Ilsa's fate in Dead Reckoning.

I'm excited! I'll be in my seat in the movies come May 2025.

I'm cautiously optimistic, though I can't say I've warmed to the all-seeing AI as antagonist. Person of Interest did it better.

LOL. Point taken. But to be fair, Person of Interest had 103 40min episodes and 5-6 years to introduce and develop the AI as antagonist. Mission:Impossible - Dead Reckoning had 2hrs and 43min. It's not exactly a fair comparison.

The opening minutes of the film with the Entity basically tricking the crew of the Sevastopol into sinking itself in order to make it next to impossible to find its brain/core showcased exactly how dangerous that thing was.

I can see how having an antagonist that's something as nebulous as the Entity can be not as fulfilling as having a Solomon Lane or John Lark/August Walker. But I think that's why you have a character like Gabriel in play who is basically the physical manifestation of the Entity's will. But I digress

I think part of the issue is not showcasing how dangerous it is....its showcasing how dangerous its not.

When you have an enemy that can track every move you make, has the resources of the entire world at their disposal, and is simply smarter than you.... I mean how do you beat that realistically? The answer is.....luck (or moreso plot armor) because you simply should lose. and in MI that doesn't feel satisfying.

Now if they had introduced some weakness in the AI, a blind spot, a weird glitch or some personality quirk....ok, thats a vulnerable point they could ultimately exploit and win and that feels satisfying. They likely will introduce such a thing in the 2nd movie, but chekov's gun doesn't work if you walk into the room with the gun and immediately fire it.

It already has a fatal weakness. It will have access to all the past episodes of the Mission Impossible TV series. Therefore it knows that the IMF is good at gaslighting its targets and making them think what they see is true, when it’s really just an illusion. Ergo, it has to conclude that any information it gathers by observing the IMF is false, and it should do the opposite of the action that appears logical. Thus it destroys itself with crippling self-doubt.
