Well, yeah, it is illegal to photocopy so much out of a book. Fair use doesn't allow for nearly so much - Hell, technically there are laws against photocopying too much of an academic publication when you're writing essays at university.

...because I am photocopying the 70-something new monsters I do want for my games without blowing $30 on such a horribly written book...The NEW monsters are pretty awesome...I am at no loss since I didn't spend money on it so hah!

I won't make additional comment on your "character" as I think you have detailed that pretty clearly for everyone yourself.

I am confused though why on the one hand you say it is horribly written but then reverse this around by saying 70 out of the 100 plus monsters are "pretty awesome". This sounds more like you are trying to justify your poor behaviour than attempting to provide an honest critique of the book.

I will answer questions tonight, I am heading to the mall. Don't overwhelm me too much LOL I'll still try to answer questions, though.

It's smart, actually. A lot of people hate how part of or half of a book is for them, yet the majority is not. Yet they have to pay full price for it, still.
WotC doesn't come to thier house and hold a gun against thier head.

Frostburn had some useful stuff, but most of the book was useless to me.

I didn't buy it.

WotC thugs didn't barge in and demand I purchase it though.

They don't HAVE to do anything.

So they do things like share with their friends or photocopy what they need. I don't believe sharing is illegal in the US...yet. :\
Sharing isn't.

Copying is.

"No part of this may be reproduced without express permission" ring a bell?

It's illegal, and shine it how you want, it kind of makes you a tool for bagging on the book in one breath, then brag about stealing it in the next, then trying to claim you're just "sharing" it.

Sharing it is when he gives you the BOOK to use.

Photocopying is reproducing the items so you can get what you want without paying.

I personally have no problem with people sharing gaming books, or photocopying for personal use. Razz, it probably did ruin some of your credibility to announce that you were going to copy it, but I don't hold it against you. I haven't bought a D&D book aside from magazines since Gen Con last year. My friend buy them, so I have no reason to.

My questions are:

What is your favorite monster in the book?

What monster has your favorite art in the book?

Is there anything Cthulhu-esque?

The yugoloths count only 2, not 3. The Corruptor of Fate is a CR 5 yugoloth that specializes in stealth and assassination. It has two block stats, one normal and one with 5 levels of Assassin. The voor is a yugoloth bred to be guardians of yugoloth strongholds and fortresses, it's CR 4 and the Dreadful Lasher is simply an upgraded Voor, that one is CR 9 but it does have unique abilities like higher SR and DR.

First of all, thank you for spilling the beans on the demons and 'loths in the book.

*mulls over this all*

Based on this I think the book is worth a closer look at the very least. The corrupter of fate seems like a lesser Gacholoth in style, if not in name, while the Voor seems oddly similar to Guardian Yugoloths. The only thing I'm going to find fault in is going to be the apparent abandonment of the 'loth naming convention, unless of course they offer a X'loth name for them in the flavor text provided.

The tanar'ri and non-Tanar'ri demons... I'll need to have a closer look before making a judgement on them. Based on what you've said, they range from 'meh' to 'has promise'. Conceptually they don't stand out much, but the flavor text may bump them up.

Aside: While it's occasionally self-satisfying to wisecrack that X designer or Y developer might turn a consumer's response from "Huzzah!" to "Kazaa!", it's not exactly a wise idea to openly admit that you're photocopying a huge amount from a book. Not wise at all. And I'll say no more on those lines...

Can we close this tread?

The poster already admitted to photocopying well in excess of "fair use".

Let's please support the publishers

Nough said.
