was anyone else kinda pissed off at a softcover monster book (monsters of fearun)containing many monsters that can, argueably, be considered as core monsters?

i dont own it, thats how much it bothered me. i will pick it up when it hits the used book stores.

Not at all, I was happy that we got the opportunity to get a lot of these monsters in a classy, well-produced book so shortly after the Core Books came out...

Basically, anything you see listed in the Table of Contents for the Tome of Horrors is not in the MM2

Uh, that's nice... but is this ToC available for persual for us anywhere? :)

First of all you have to realize that Monsters of Faerun came out only a few months after Monster manual did and its purpose was to cover the important monsters fromForgotten realms and the monsters that got cut out of monnster manual.

Secondly you need to realize that things were different 2 years ago when they were putting this book together. Back then they thought that there regular customers would only be willing to buy so many Hardcover books in a year and with The 3 core rulebooks plus psionics handbook all coming out at basically the same time a 5th hardcover was out of the question. They have since learned that gamers like hardcovers and will buy them monthly rather than yearly, but what's done is done the future will include mostly hardcovers from WoTC as well as many d20 publishers but that doesn't make Monsters of Faerun any less worthwhile as a monster book.

Once again you are most correct my friend. I can't say what is in the MM2 (NDA's and such prevent it) but I can tell you what ISN'T in there.

yep, that's pretty much the story i've been hearing for months. ;) anyone who knows the contents of the MM2 is under a non-disclosure agreement. but hey... it's out in 3 weeks, so have patience. :) besides, i'm sure some scooper will find out the table of contents, or at least a portion of it, in the next week or two.

psion Necromancer has the table of contents list on there messageboards. Sorry I don't know the link but I'm sure somebody does.

actually, we've also got the contents of the Tome of Horrors on the creature catalog site now. :) just follow the link from Graz'zt's post above, then go to the Creature Locator, look at the d20 publishers section, and viola! :)

I also would have preferred MoF in hardback, but I completely understand why it was done as a perfect bound instead. I own it, and use it, and like it. I'll buy MM2 and ToH and Monsternomicon as well because I really can't have too many monster books.
