Mobile Spellcasting

burnrate

First Post
I'm not sure I fully appreciate the impact of the mobile spellcasting feat in CA. It says you can move and cast a spell as part of a standard action. That means, I think, that you can essentially do a double move on a turn you cast a spell. I suppose it also means you can cast a spell and direct an existing spell while moving. It doesn't seem worth a feat. Am I missing something?

Mobility is king under D&D, having greater mobility gives you an edge over the opponents that is almost unbeatable.

Being able to move and cast as a standard action is a tremendous benefit for a single feat. move and deliver spell (say cone spells such as burning hands) and then afterwards move away back into cover (either from pther players or from hard cover).
In open(ish) ground, a melee fighter type can never catch you.

im going to be takeing this feat soon.

Im a druid

I have already taken steady concentration. It lets me take a 10 on concentration checks. Its in races of stone.

Now combine this with draconic wildshape, and you have a charicter that can move 150 feet (flying) and cast a spell as a standard action. Mobility is king, as said above.

anyone that tryed to run would have to face the wrath of a dragon going 300 feet a round AND raining firey hell to earth.

You could also dive into combat, heal, then dive back behind the front line.

Another fun one is to combine it with blink -- pop out of a wall, cast, duck back through (*).

*: highly suggested you go through a _thin_ wall. Some miss chances may apply. Kids, don't try this at home.

I think that you can do only a move and a spell, during the move, not double move and a spell.
Like spring attack or flyby attack. No?

I Love This Feat

Mobile Spellcasting is amazing. I dont know how I lived without it. I have it on my Arcane Trickster and man is it useful. Granted, you need to be high level to use it effectively (make the Concentration checks).

Vampiric Touch
Dragon's Breath (small aoe but great damage when shared with familiar)
Tactical (hide around corners or in the ground with a Ghostform or what not)
Tactical Part Two (avoid shooting rays through cover, move to avoid it)

Remember to be flying and cast Aerial Alacrity first =)))

FEADIN: The feat states that you may cast a spell and take a move as a standard action. The core rules allow you a standard action and a move action during your turn so RAW you would get another move action. I as a DM would be very careful with this feat.... Being able to move, cast, and then finish your move ALONE is worth a feat selection, let alone getting 2 moves in a round.

Ah, I just re-read touch spells in combat and it looks like that works out OK. I didn't realize it was possible before this thread to do a touch "spring attack" with mobile spellcasting. Although a concentration check is needed it's amazing this is possible with one feat.
