Modern Maps

Using the Internet, it's not hard to come up with maps for a modern setting. It really depends on what you want. Every major university, public facility, landmark, park, etc has a map on its website. These can be printed or downloaded as an image for planning purposes. You can use something like MapQuest or Yahoo Maps for regions within the US.

For generic areas, like a gas station or apartment building, use something close to where you live and draw up a map. It's a lot harder to find maps for things like apartment complexes, but again, the Internet can provide it. There are websites for apartment hunters, home buyers/sellers, and the like, and a lot of these have at least pictures if not outright maps of their properties.

Also another good resource is the travel and tourism office. I live in Boston and at South Station (a train and bus station) they have maps for tourists. There're quite good. one side is for walking and the other is for driving. The walking side has building drawn in as land marks (nice touch) and it was free! I recently ran an adventure set in boston just because I had a good map. Try it out if you can get to a city.

Those interested in location maps for d20 Modern should keep an eye on Polyhedron/Dungeon magazine starting with the next issue...we've got something cooking that I think will please a lot of people. :)

If you're going to be doing them and if they're even half as good as the ones in the last Polyhedron, I can hardly wait. Are you going to take suggestions or requests? If so, I'll get the ball rolling;

1, Malls, preferably a minimum of 2 with varying sizes, and shopping centers
2, Community buildings like schools, hospitals and jails
3, Amusement areas like parks, museums and amusement parks
4, Travel based areas like airports, train depots and bus stations

Hey Mapmaker,
Which issue number are you referring to so I will pick it up. And here is a stupid question for you. I know what dungeon mag is for but could you give me a description of Polyhedron please. Thanks.
