Modern Party consists of?

A Team

The A Team.

Everyone knew how to use guns and explosives.

Face -- High Charisma, Diplomacy, Gather Info skills

Murdock -- pilot (also insane for comic relief)

BA -- tough guy (cleave, high str, rage, etc.)

Hannibal -- Man with the Plan (leadership, tactics, diplomacy)

They tended to use NPCs for medic stuff.

Too bad the A-team was a kids show and really didn't need a "sharpshooter". They also has their "Smart Guy" being the man with the plan. And who didn't love it when a plan came together?

Wasn't the guy added to the team during the later seasons a sharpshooter/marksman of some sort? (frankie(?))

not trying to derail the thread, just thinking...

Crothian: as far as a modern party, your original list seems about right to me...though depending on the campaign, some could be dropped...(as with any game of any genre) or they could be hired on in an as needed basis...(gives a good excuse for campaign walk-ins)...

Silly people. Everyone knows that the players make the PCs, and the GM tailors the game to them.

Right but I'm trying to give the players a little bit of focus or I will get a Pc that tries to create a character that will be useless.

I SHOULD have a game starting where everybody is going to start off as 1st level Academic Smart heroes ... wonder how bad they'll get crushed. :)

Playing yourself when the :):):):) hits the fan sucks, I'm sure.

I'm more interested in seeing what they end up multiclassing themselves to.

Well.....in the Talaka 2000 game I'm preparing, they're going to require a Dedicated/ Field Surgeon (or Acolyte), a Tough/ Shadow Slayer, a Smart/Mage or Charismatic/Telepath, and a Fast. They're also going to have to make sure some of them have survival skills.

It all matters what kind of game you want to play. My game will end up as a sort of Modern D&D crossed with liberal bits of government conspiracy and a series of supposedly fictional books written in 1823 purported to be the very first "fantasy" novels.....

Interesting Aside... one of the designers of d20 Spycraft made a post in this very forum earlier this year, wherein he specifically said that the A-Team was a major influence on the design of Spycraft. :)

To me, the makeup of the A-Team is a perfect example of a modern adventuring group. Add to that someone who is good at Computer operations, and you have a perfect balance.

B.A. Barracus played the Wheelman/Tough Guy

"Hannibal" Smith was the smart hero, with a bit of tough thrown in

Face was the charismatic/fast hero

Murdoch was the wheelman/Smart hero who specialized in repair.

In general, I think a modern party consists of whatever the campaign genre calls for. If it's military, bring on the strong, fast, tough soldiers. If it's X-Files, smart and charismatic all the way. If it's "play your day job," then a mix. I don't think there is one set party you'll find in Modern.

Actually, I think B.A. was the chief repair expert, though they all could do it when necessary.

I quote Hannibal, "B.A., you can fix anything."

They should put out the A-Team d20.

Stargate SG-1 d20 Modern Iconic Heros

I've been thinking about this subject for the StarGate d20 Modern game I am preparing. The earlier shows portrays the following, I think, with classes and skills listed:

Daniel Jackson - Smart/Charismatic Hero (Knowledge: History, Knowledge: Arcane Lore, Diplomacy, Computer Use, Decipher Script, Forgery, Investigate, Sense Motive, Search)
Teal'c - Tough/Strong Hero (+ Jaffa Advanced Class) (Knowledge: History (Non-Earth Only), Knowledge: Technology (Non-Earth Only), Spot, Listen, Hide, Move Silently, Search, Disable Device, Disguise, Intimidate, Jump, Navigate, Pilot, Survival)
Maj. Samantha Carter - Dedicated/Smart hero (Treat Injury, Knowledge: Earth & Life Sciences, Knowledge: Physical Sciences, Craft: Chemical, Craft: Electronic, Demolitions, Repair, Research).
Col. Jonathan "Jack" O'Neill - Fast Hero (Balance, Bluff, Demolitions, Gamble, Gather Information, Jump, Knowledge: Tactics, Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, Survival, Tumble)
