This is cross-posted from Monte Cook's website, but I wanted a little more feedback from a wider d20 audience before I let it die. Thanks!
The Saint template from the Book of Exalted Deeds would be an awesome addition to my character, both RP-wise and ability-wise, but according to the build I have him set for, he does not have the feats available to take the three required exalted feats.
Looking at the template, it appears to be balanced by the fact that many of the Exalted feats are flavor-oriented and not very powerful at all. That, or it's just plain broken for a +2 level adjustment. Either way, I'd like to dumb it down quite a bit. Here are my thoughts for fixing the template.
- Holy Power is decreased to +1 and Holy Touch is a standard +1d6 holy that does not stack with holy weapons. Evil creatures do not take the damage when attacking the saint, only when the Saint hits them with weapon.
- All spell-like abilities are 1/day
- Fast Healing is removed
- Immunity to acid and petrification attacks only
- Drop Resistances to Fire 5
- Ability adjustments become +2 Wis, +4 Cha
This version is definitely a lot less powerful than as written in the Book of Exalted Deeds. The big problem is that free-action, double strength magic circle against evil/minor globe of invulnerability. How might I fix this without dropping the power level too much? It's the best ability mechanically and cinematically. Cutting it to 3/day would probably be ok, but then the flavor is simply gone. Perhaps don't make it double strength? Or perhaps make it either a magic circle or the minor globe and not both? Not quite sure what to do here.
Anyway, if you have any more suggestions they're very welcome. Thanks.
