From the way your post is worded, it doesn't sound like you're a fan of the modron march or the way the planes work in general. If the planes are infinite, how do you know they are walking through "every" interesting place in each of those infinite planes?

What other ideas have folks used for LN outsiders in their campaigns?

Old question, and technically I don't use alignments like LN, but it would still qualify, soooo....

In the course of running a converted L2 "The Secret of Bone Hill" recently, I had need for something that would be the equivalent of the spectator: the LN beholder-thing summoned to guard treasure. It was converted to a clockwork golden sphere with a massive gem for a lens (or "central eye"), and with four similar gem-lenses in golden housing orbiting it as satellites. I actually never named its specific individual species, but I'm rather interested in the idea of things that are made of treasure, servants of deities of wealth and commerce, bound by a code of guardianship.

I plan to eventually flesh out more and more of these guardian-entities that take forms made of precious metals and gems. Clockwork jewel-orreries, gem-encrusted suits of armor, possibly a "creeping coins" Wizardry reference, and I definitely want at least one take on the golden calf. As a plus, they can be further reskinned/altered to represent "corrupted" versions that have fallen under the sway of gods or devils of avarice.
