MoF: Kiss of the Vampire

Doesn't this spell seem a tad powerful for a 4th level spell? In addition to all the other granted powers, you can cast Vampiric Touch (a 3rd level spell) every round for the duration of the spell. Not to mention that it gives you the ability to heal yourself by targetting yourself with arcane negative energy spells (i.e. Negative Energy Ray, Negative Energy Wave, etc.). Were the people who set this as a 4th level spell on crack or is there something I'm missing?

I have this spell as part of my character's Greater Contingency... lot's o fun when grappled, or just in any "gone bad" situation.

Is it too powerful? I don't think so... 4th lvl is the "save or die" spell level, so it's where power begins to open up.

It certainly looks powerful, although the description I'm looking at lists it as a 5th level spell. Its still kind of mean for a 5th level spell though.

Granted, if there is a Cleric around when you cast it, you could be royally screwed, but the allowing of a will save to resist the turn makes that a fairly weak downside. I would either remove the will save or change it to be 10 + Cleric's level.

It gets even nastier when you have an arcane trickster that can dispel any see invis, cast improved invis, and the make a sneak attack every round with vampiric touch for 8D6 or more and gets to stack the total onto his temporary hitpoints from his earlier vampiric touches.

I don't think temporal hit points stack.

The spell IS 5th-level, and I think it's OK, because it has a rather short duration, you have to close with the enemy for enervation or vampiric touch and are now subject to turning attempts. Also, other spells that affect undead affect you now!

It certainly would make Mass Heal in your enemies' hands a brutal thing to be hit with. Then again, they have to know your undead, most likely via Spellcraft.

It could be my immagination, but doesn't the spell also give you all of the negatives of being a vampire? Like, you know, spontaneous combustion when exposed to sunlight?

All that aside, my wizard just downloaded the spell, and it looks promising. If only he could escape this bloody wild magic zone, he would probably try it out.

While I realize the picture that accompanies the spell has no relative game impact, the picture suggests that the spell makes it pretty obvious that you are undead.

That guy could be undead, he could be a demon, or he could just be malformed. I'd probably give a cleric a chance to recognize the effects, especially after you used one of the touch attacks or bilities.

:D Ever been hit by a Sunbeam after using this spell? Poof -
powdered PC...(ok Sunbeam allows a Ref save: die or take half of at least 13d6 damage in this case)

After all, Kiss of the Vampire is an evil spell (errata). So, be careful about your DM (and his thoughts regarding an alignment change ;)).
