To cut a very long story short, you get a random amount in character creation (say, 1d6+3 for a Scientist) which is not modified by Con - that does something else in this game :)

After that, you gain a set number of hit points per level -

Thanks for the additional information Matt. One question that comes to my mind... do the characters have any active defences against being hurt (parry/dodge/whatever), or is it merely passive defences (level based increases to the DC to hit someone)?

I ask since the standard d20 idea of hp is supposed at some level to represent a characters ability to dodge harm. If I were planning on removing hit points, my natural inclination would be to include some more overt means of dodging harm (after all, that is the way that successful RPGs such as Runequest handled the situation all those years ago). I'm interested in whether you decided to tackle the issue this way, or came up with some other solution.

- Also... are any of the new mechanisms which you introduce in B5 likely to be OGC, available for other game systems to use?

Cheers

Please tell me that the B5 playtesting groups include Americans, Canadians, anyone outside the UK?

Well, yes. . . In fact, I don;t think we have any playtest groups _in_ the UK, aside from the office campaign.

Umm, why? Got something against UK playtesters? :)

Nope. I have nothing against them. It's cool.

Of course, it would have been nice if there was a public open call for playtesting an "untitled science fiction rpg."
