Mystery Man

You're joking right?

I see the Encounters and Lairs book at my FLGS, its got a warped cheap-crap-assed cover, fragile binding, and what looks to be printed on recycled paper and the inside is black and white. And you guys have the balls to charge 35 dollars for this?! Who do you think you are? There is absolutlely no way I am going to pay that kind of price for this book. There's so much more I'd like to say but its just unprintable on any internet forum.

I was so looking forward to this book. Shame on you.

You know, I thought the same (albeit slightly more mildly) thing.

I flipped through the book looked at the price and said to myself, "In six months I'll get this on ebay for $18.00."

Seemed like a great idea that was not executed real well and overpriced.

It's generally best to try and be polite if you actually want to offer the company feedback. Ranting gets a lot less attention than questions and suggestions.

Heh, I'm not sure there is a polite way to phrase a question/statement like this.

But in their defense, somewhat, bear in mind that they are English, and that due to the dollar dropping, they have to charge higher prices. Probably even worse if they were in mainland Europe, which uses the Euro. (Luckily, our biggest trading partner, China, has a currency pegged to the dollar, so it doesn't matter all that much for most things, but there are darn few Chinese RPGs, at least games)

I think that this would have a shred of evidence if the prices ever go down as the dollar goes up.

I like a lot of Mongoose products. I'm using the Quint. Sorcerer and Drow right now but their larger books, especially those after 3.5 hit, have had some serious issues.

For example, while they've put up errata for their spell book, have they done so with the monster book yet? If so, I haven't seen it yet and it's stopping me from buying the book. Sheloth, another $35 book, also is in need of errata for all of the NPCs which were done up via program as opposed to by a person in 3.0.

Good stuff but more editors and q & a needed.

Uh...

Never mind. I don't think I should help Mystery Man, even though he is probably looking and ranting at that one book, albeit defective. I wonder if the FLGS only ordered one, or the other copies have already been purchased prior to his visit.

Mongoose does not print their own books. That's what the printing companies are for. If you have a defective product, notify Mongoose and they will try to correct the situation.

Usually when I don't care for a product, I just don't buy it. Persecuting them on a messageboard for making a product that might have appealed to you if they had done it differently is about as effective as spitting on a fish, barking up a tree, or saying that you have to buy one if you want to get one free. Of course we all know which Weird Al song I'm pulling those lyrics from and I think the title of the song is sadly appropriate to this scenario.
