Mongoose in 2006 (and a bit on the Industry in General)

Don't know if it has been done but there is a ton of hype around Aeon Flux. Though given some of the words used to describe, I kind of would bet on Middle Earth or Harry Potter.

Personally I hope it isn't Middle Earth since I won't purchase it if they do it, still a bit tainted since Sheoloth.

Joining in the wild guess game ...

Chivalry and Sorcery

The Eternal Champion (with Elric, the first sourcebook being the world of The Timethief's Daughter)

Dangerous Journeys (a guy can always hope :) )

Kult

Wheel of Time (multi-product license)

GURPS d20

GURPS D&D

And I'll stop it there before I mention GURPS D&D d20 (oops)

No one's mentioned an epic movie series that's just starting, based on a beloved book series, and that's never been done as an RPG - Hello? - Narnia, anyone?

I don't think Narnia would qualify as a "Holy Grail" of RPGs. I don't think I've seen many clamor for one.

(And based on his ads on ENWorld, I'm shocked The Le would be interested in a movie based on several middle aged men and a camel. Even as a joke. Though I guess there is some similarity between that movie and the original movie of Dune, as both were flops in a desert)

Star Wars....

That was really the only name that came to me for the Holy Grail other then Harry Potter. Harry Potter would be interesting since in the movies at least they have wanted English cast and peopel working on it and Mongoose is obviously english. :D

Well, Mongoose Matt might call their license for a 'Holy Grail' of rpgs.
Does create more than a buzz than 'semi-known trilogy by my cousin's roommate' license.
Not that I don't believe Mongoose has a big thing on their hands, it's just that companies don't usually make their press announcements and the like as non-flashy as possible ;)

Well let me start by saying this is a complete guess, not based on any insider knowledge whatsoever.

In fact, it's not even a guess, as I don't think anyone will ever get this license for an RPG. Ever.

But if someone were to say to me, "Name one license that if someone were to get it, could produce a game that might sell more than Dungeons & Dragons" I know exactly what answer I would come up with.

Harry Potter.

But if anyone, Mongoose or other, were to get that, I'd not quite be eating my hat (based on the size of the property, and JK Rowling's quite reasonable desire to keep total control of her property)... but I'd be very pleasantly amazed. :)

(It would be incredibly cool though - think of the new blood it might draw into the hobby).

This was my immediate thought too. The number of new players introduced to the hobby would be worth any headache that could possibly result from the licensing issues. I feel confident that Mongoose can do it right, and therefore see a huge resurgence in the gaming world.

I also hope it's d20 -- done right. (Similar to the way GOO did Game of Thrones.)

FYI -- I am a huge fan of the mega campaign modules. Let's see more!
