(Mongoose) January Releases

MongooseMatt

First Post
Hi guys,

The New Year is but a few hours away, and before I engage in some well-deserved (!) festive fun, I just wanted to let you all know about what is coming in January from Mongoose. We have lots of new goodies due for you, as well as all the Deecmber releases that did not manage to beat the Christmas shut down.

BABYLON 5 and A CALL TO ARMS
We are Babylon 5 crazy at the moment here at Mongoose! If you have seen my other posts this evening, you will know that Into the Crucible and The Rangers are both due in January. On top of those, there will also be the Babylon 5 Pocket Handbook and A Call to Arms Rules Supplement I (lots of goodies in there - Space Stations, scenarios and Battles in Hyperspace). If that were not enough, by the end of January, the entire Call to Arms miniatures line will be available through our web site, the Narn and Centauri fleet box sets will be coming through to your local store and, fingers crossed, the ISA fleet box set will also be making an appearence towards the end of the month. We are also hoping for the appearence of Wheel of Fire, the last of the main season guides, at the end of the month.

CONAN RPG
I previewed the Shadizar box set a few days ago, and it is a real corker. We also have the Pocket Conan Rulebook on the way and, fingers crossed again, hopefully the Messantia box set will hit our warehouse before the end of the month. This means you will have two complete cities to adventure in, plus a new handy guide to the core rules of the game that will be a lot easier to carry to game sessions!

JEREMIAH RPG
Based on the Straczynski TV series, the Jeremiah RPG is a post-apocalyptic game like no other. Stand by for the forthcoming preview - if you enjoy the story-telling of Babylon 5, you will love this new setting from the same creative genius. . .

GANGS OF MEGA-CITY ONE
The next in line of our new miniatures games, Gangs of Mega-City One takes you to the streets of the largest metropolis in the world, straight from the comic strip of Judge Dredd. Build your gang up and steal territory from your rivals but be careful not to draw too much attention from the Judges. The basic box set provides you with enough miniatures to get your gang well and truly going but blister packs will bring Judges into the game, as well as feature specialists such as Fatties, Blitzers, Assassins and Robo-Dogs. I'll be doing a full preview of this within a few days.

PARANOIA XP
We have the Mutant Experience due in January, which will include more ways to inflict pain on your players. However, I also wanted to just drop a mention of the new range of Paranoia miniatures. We just received the masters of the Troubleshooters box set today and they look absolutely great - they capture the general hopelessness of the game perfectly :)

LONE WOLF
January is the month we complete the first run of Lone Wolf miniatures, finishing up with the Doom Wolves, Helghasts and Crypt Spawn - stay tuned to our web site for a painted preview.

MONSTER ENCYCLOPAEDIA I
Finally, we will be releasing the first of our all new monster books, jam-packed with creative and original monsters from the fevered imaginations of the Mongoose writers. More on this soon!

Quite enough for one month, I think. As for February, well, it gets even better :)

TWO cities for Conan?!

Damn I'm getting all misty eyed...

Any more word on this or the dark bestiary volume II? I got a gift card for my FLGS, am looking for a good monster book but would want more info on these as I make my choice among these and other monster books that are available.

Are these wholly new or are there reprints or 3.5 updates of monsters from previous mongoose publications?

The little blurbs on your site and amazon indicate it is a little more than just monsters but also has advice on creating whole encounters. Care to expand on that?

Thanks.

Is it like the penumbra fantasy bestiary with adventure hooks for each creature, does it come with fully done out encounters or is it just a descriptive introductory chapter on using monsters that is referenced?

Any differences between I & II? II is titled dark bestiary, does that mean more of a focus on demons and undead and really evil things?

Can anyone confirm a rumor (started by that Amazon.com's leaking information conspiracy) that Mongoose have acquired a license to publish Star Trek roleplaying games?

Voadam: This is a 'straight' monster book. If you are after something a bit more extended, may I suggest our Book of Encounters & Lairs - I think that may be just what you are looking for. Book II will be focussing on the very essence of Evil with its creatures. . .

Ranger: Yes, I heard that rumour today as well. . .

Great I'm actually looking for a straight monster book, and from the blurbs on amazon and your site for the product it sounded a bit more like a mix of encounter book and monster book.

From Amazon:

""Know your enemy!" The most important tenet for any would-be adventurer. The Monster Encyclopaedia Volume I presents a horde of weird and wonderful creatures, both helpful and malevolent, to introduce into your games. Monster Encyclopaedia I is so much more than simply pages of monsters listings, however. It includes a full creation palette, enabling the lair, background and encounter to be fully integrated with the creature itself, providing a more satisfying gaming experience for Players and Game Masters alike."

From your site:

"Throwing things with lots of teeth, claws, scales and alarming numbers of hit dice at your players is one of the major perks of being the Games Master. Complex plots, fascinating characters and intriguing puzzles are all well and good, but should be mixed with a regular spot of hacking, slashing and running away from the beasts with the big pointy teeth.

"Using monsters properly is an art. The actual statistics and game abilities of a monster are only part of the encounter – just having the adventurers opening a door in a dungeon and coming face to face with the horror is a lazy approach. If Beowulf just met Grendel while out for a evening stroll, or if Bilbo encountered Smaug while popping down to the Green Dragon for a pint, then the encounters would be far less memorable than they actually are. The chapter aims to help you get the most out of your monsters."
