colour me confused...

2 classes that already exist, a fighter and a cleric?

don't understand the point of these products, I'm afraid

When you say Fighter and Cleric, do you mean Gladiator and Exorcist, or Noble and Exorcist?

Heck, in some ways, most of these classes have been hit by other companies. I don't think Mongoose is claiming anything original here, but the goal is probably to provide some variety.

I mean the Gladiator has already been done as a core class ala Kenzer's KoK Player's Guide, the Noble's seen about three different versions, and the Assassin has it's own handbook.

I think these mini-formats will make for an interesting test and allow some focus on a single class. I'll be curious to see if it's just a single core class with fluff or if it has more options, details and goodies. I know these booklets are actually about 8 pages worth of material since their half pages but some of the modules were rather cool by FFG and AEG so I have some hope.

Your assessment is pretty close. From a marketing point of view, the Power Classes are a kind of experiment, both in function and format. At $2.99/£1.99 each, they should persuade people to at least take a look and, of course, each does contain a complete core class.

Players and Games Masters can both treat them as kind of plug-in modules to their existing games system, expanding the range of core classes as much or as little as they wish. If any turn out to be immensely popular, well you never know, there may just be a Quintessential following them, much as we are now considering doing the same with the Chaos Mage.
