Okay, I ask again...how much will this one be?

Apologies, missed the last one.

Not sure what you are asking here - the revised material PDF will be free for everyone. The actual book will hold its price at $19.95/£14.95.

Hope that helps.

Now there's something to look forward to!

Will any changes be made to the Open Mass Combat System? That single item was why I bought the book in the first place, but the book was so very well done I have bought all the Quintessential Class books since!

The Auld Grump.

I must admit, I cannot recall precisely what we changed in the OMCS off the top of my head, but I believe there were a few tweaks here and there - nothing major though.

If you are a fan of the OMCS, however, check out the Slaine RPG and The Rookie's Guide to Block Wars for Judge Dredd, as they both have updated and tweaked versions of the OMCS for their own genres.

Hi guys,

The Quintessential Fighter is once again back in print - However, not content to simply reprint this tome, we have taken the opportunity to revise and expand the rules to add a great deal of new material, as well as respond to the comments we have received over the past year from gamers. If you already possess a copy of The Quintessential Fighter, worry not, as you will not have to buy it all over again - all the revised material will be featured on our web site later next month as a download.

Gee -- I guess there are business ethics on the other side of the Atlantic... I feel that Mongoose sets good examples in content and, now, in ethics.

Just a question -- since you mentioned the "distracting gal" art: I notice that all of the semi-nude artwork in the Quintessential Rogue is in the chapter on poisons. In addition, I just picked up the Q. Druid, with the poison-using feminists. My group all commented on it as well. What's the connection between breasts and poison?

I am not so sure about that - I wanted to take the opportunity to update and add more material to this book, but I just couldn't do it while making people buy the book all over again and keeping a straight face. The book has only been out a year and it certainly isn't time enough for a second edition :)

At the end of the day, this reprint is all about putting the book back into the marketplace, rather than pushing the new material - thus it makes no difference to us having the revised material on the web site. So, we come to 'why not?'

Err. . . good question. No idea. Can we put it down to coincidence? :)

thanks for the info and it will be cool to have xp costs for the fighting styles to go along with a couple of other books that have been written that also do that. Thanks for the update to a good book.

I've always been a passive visitor of Enworld, but i really wanted to comment this announcement from Mongoose.

I've brought a dumped first edition star war d20 rpg and was expecting the d20 quality, but was rather deceived by the quality of the work. Wizards did acklowledge that and decided less than a year later to publish a new version of the book and to re-edit all their books based on those rules. I asked their customer service if they would publish a update : no. I complained and received a pre-written answer saying that "wizards is a company that set standard of quality and they are proud of their products, they are sorry if a customer was deceived" and bla bla bla ; some kind of pre-genated politically correct answer that they give to a type of comment, nothing seemed a bit personnalized.

Now, i do see a smaller company with less ressources taking time to participate in threads on fans web sites like this one. And i see that they will give free pdf of the upgrade of their Qfighter book. WOW! This is a company who think long term, who prefer consolidating relation with customer rather than making short term money. While i've boycotted almost all Wizards book (exept MMII), i will definitly look for Mongoose products because i know that if they later improve the quality of their product, i can look forward to benifit from this improvement without having to buy a new book. I really wanted to do this comment in case some company would hesitated between those strategy : it pay when you respect the relation you have with you customers.

Thank you.

Hmmm, I must admit I have been considering Slaine for a while now. A tweaked OMCS isn't quite enough to push it all the way, but it is close. If I weren't already running d20 games set in four different settings I'd probably snap it up. (One 1600's with magic game set during the 30 years war (First ran thisone onder 2nd ed.), one Swashbucklig Adventures game, one Scarred Lands game, and Call of Cthulhu. Only the 1600s game seeing regular play.)

The Auld Grump, and there's a LOT of overlap between the 1600s game and SA.

Conan license

Was the Conan license expensive?

I ask because Sean Punch (GURPS Line Editor) said on the Pyramid boards that the license cost had become too much for Steve Jackson Games and thus it would not reprint or revise GURPS Conan. And SJG is a much larger RPG publisher than Mongoose, and has been around forever, so I thought the license would go to a big boy, like Alderac, Wizards, White Wolf or Palladium.

/me found GURPS Conan used, and shan't part with it.

Whether something is expensive or not is a very subjective thing that depends on who is paying! I cannot talk specifics, though we have paid less for licences before - and we have also paid more. . .

I have not really had much contact with anyone in Steve Jackson, so I cannot really say whether they are still larger than us or not - I really have no idea. They certainly are veterans though.

On the other hand, how do you judge whether one company is larger than another? Staff? Turnover? Profit? Market Share? Floor Space in the Office? :)
