I love your year-end review! I look forward to it each year. Thanks for posting this. It's always good to compare notes and see what's going on Mongoose Publishing for next year.

Matt, I was kinda hoping to hear you comment on the EN World Gamer. We're almost to art calls for our third issue now, and we're hoping that with a bit of expansion of staff ourselves, we might be able to handle more than the meager four issues a year we're doing now.

Are you going to make GenCon this year?

Interesting post Matt, being one of those early purchasers of Conan I was a bit miffed at the problems you mentioned, but once the reaction of the moment passed I have to admit I'm very pleased with the products that Mongoose releases.

Very interesting read, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the industry with us.

The Mongoose thrives

For personal reasons, I'm glad to see Mongoose doing well Matt--not to mention that some of your new games of renewed my faith in the value of the entire d20 concept--now only if I can find people to try the B5 minis game.

Hi guys,

Getting towards the end of the year and it seems like an appropriate time to take a step back, review what has gone before and start peering at what may be. I did this in the first year of Mongoose and it seems to have become something of a tradition to speculate and reflect in this way every December - so, ignore me or carry on reading but remember, these are only my ramblings about the RPG industry and they are only from my perspective.

What about some info about foreign editions of Mongoose Books? I know I'm biased (just a little 8-), but I'm curious too...

I must commend the italian edition of Necromancy, very well done by Wyrd. They are slow in publishing books, but their work is really fine. More, there is the roaring success of the Italian edition Lone Wolf during the Lucca Comics and Games convention: they sold out the 200 copies of the Collector's Edition (at 50 euros apiece!) and other 300 copies of the regular edition (including retailers' copies of course - I bought six for the store PLUS the collector edition for myself). Editori Folli did a good job (albeit I don't like the Italian cover...).

Any chance to see an Italian edition of Conan and of Paranoia? Eh? Eh?

Hi guys,

Let's see if I can answer a few questions!

Joe: Web support is a big thing for us. Supplementary material for lines such as the Quintessentials has beenb slower than i would have liked, but check out what is available for the likes of Babylon 5, Conan, Lone Wolf and A Call to Arms!

We are looking at some ways of doing Quintessential compilations and further releases of compendiums for the Slayer's Guides and Encyclopaedias are very likely.

There will be plenty more PDFs on the way, just as soon as we get some spare time!

We do have a couple of licences in the pipeline but, as ever, we cannot announce yet. One is fairly huge. Another is less likely to come our way in the very near future but is about as big as you can get. So, we have crossed fingers. . . As for Manga, we have OGL Manga coming out in April, I believe.

Morg: I must admit, I am looking forward to Bloodlines tool. However, there are two other campaign style box sets I want to get through this coming year first, so it may be early 2006 before Bloodlines surfaces again.

Ed: I didn't actually get round to saying what we were doing next year :) I'll do a round up of that very soon. . .

Scourger: All our Judge Dredd efforts, at this time, are going into Gangs of Mega-City One. However, even if that does not shake your tree, the miniatures just happen to be compatible with the RPG. As for direct support, most issues of Signs & Portents have at least some material for Judge Dredd, and it is often quite extensive. We are also considering a second edition of the game, possibly to release in mid-2006. Take a trip to our forums and join in the discussion if you want to influenced the direction it goes in!

Sotterraneo: Other than granting the licences, I am afraid we don't have much control over the language translations. Release dates will always be down to the individual company.

OGL Manga eh? Any details about this puppy? The subject matter might warrant a return to full color... then again, most of the standard books like BESM d20 and I believe Random Anime are black and white so....

Compilations of the Quintessential line updated to 3.5 would be great. I still get some use out of my Quintessential Thief!

Will you be submitting products for Monte's Best of 2004? Sounds like an interesting option but at the same time, goes a little against some of Mongoose and other companies efforts to collect all OGL. It'll sound strange, but while I found AEG's Feats generally better edited, it wasn't as well organized as the Ultimate Feats collection so I appreciate and use both. (Heck, chop up the Ultimate Feats book into it's chapters as PDFs!)

I heard some rumblings about some 2300 AD comic called Warlock. That still coming out or was that a dream I had?

Thanks for the answers!
