Mongoose - Throw a bigger bone on Quint Series...

Hi Mongoose Matt ....

With all the controversy surrounding WOTC's interpretation of the 3E Ranger (i.e. the heavy frontloaded-ness, the dubious effectiveness of 2 Weapon Fighting), will the Quintessential Ranger be looking to optimize WOTC's exiting Ranger (via exclusive PrC's) or will their be an emphasis on variant core-class Ranger(s)?

The messageboard debates around the web (especially on the WOTC boards) has been *huge*. Masters of the Wild did little abate the hue & cry as the Ranger-oriented PrC's did little to compel people to play a straight-up WOTC Ranger through the mid-to-higher levels. Many of those PrC's were more optimal for Ranger1/DruidX or Ranger1/RogueX characters. Monte Cook's Ranger seems to be universally considered to be a superior core class.

Granted, Quint. Ranger seems to be far off in the future, but a little taste of the general direction of the book would be really welcome. Many of us 1E and 2E fans of the Ranger would **love** to see the Ranger become a more viable long-term character. And my group really hopes Mongoose has a solution!

Respectfully,
Snow Savant

Hi there,

I have told the writer of this project that Rangers should be 'born again hard' when they get their Quintessential book. However, we will not change any of the core rules - it will be done in. . . other ways :)

Basically, when you get The Quintessential Ranger, you will have good reason to stay in the Ranger class from 1st to 20th level. . .

Thank you, Mongoose Matt!

Now you have me intrigued. I can't wait to see the book! And from what I can see, Mongoose will be the 1st D20 book **solely** dedicated to addressing the Ranger debate. Neat!
