Monks Abilities

How exactly do the monk abilities Abundant step and Empty body work. It says Abundant step is like dimensional door, does that mean I can dimensional door people with me as per the spell? Empty body says as though using the spell etherealness, but it gives no caster level. Does this mean I can bring people into the ethreal realm with me or should WotC have put ethreal jaunt instead of ethrealness.

Thanks in andvance

These abilities are Supernatural Abilities (Su) rather than Spell-Like Abilities (Sp) so they function as they are stated rather than duplicating the effects of spells. That said, I see two possible readings of these abilities.

First it is resonable that since the abilities say they function as the spells and the spells allow you to bring other touched creatures with you that the Abundant Step and Empty Body abilities should also allow you to bring other touched creatures with you as well. Though with the Empty Body ability I am not sure how to determine the correct caster level. It could be half the monk's level like the Abundant Step ability or it may be the monks level since Ethereal Jaunt has a duration of 1 round/level which is close to the ability's 1 round per monk level per day but as the Etherealness spell has a duration of 1 min/level I can't be sure what is appropriate.

Alternately you could rule that, since both of these abilities only state that the monk "can slip magically between spaces" or "gains the ability to assume an ethereal state", these abilities allow the monk and only the monk to do these things and that these spells are only given as a mechanical reference for the described effects.

I am not certain which is the correct interpretation, both seem fair to me. I can not find anything in the errata or FAQs on this subject and I do not remember hearing any other offical word about this subject either. Sorry I could not be of more help.
