Monks and movement

I thought at one point I saw how enhanced magical movement stacks with a monk's extra movement. I have forgotten. Anyone know how this works?
IIRC, speeds over 50 are supernatural and do not stack with other magical movement enhancements. So a monk with a speed of 60 can benefit from Expeditious Retreat, but it only doubles the first 50, so the monk's total is 60+50+110.

Actually it only doubles the movement before it becomes a supernatural or whatever ability, so it would be 100 total, since 50 is the max normal. If a 9th level monk put on boots of striding and springing their movement would be 100, since 50x2 is 100.

monks movement

Could someone point me to where the following info is in PHB, DMG or oher publication.

Page 40 of the PH, Fast Movement states that from 9th level and up, the monk's increased speed is supernatural, and similar magical effects don't stack unless specifically stated otherwise. It's also stated again in the FAQ.

Thanks guys. I have a monk in my game that just turned 9th level and the player is looking for ways to increase his speed even more. I am assuming the boots of s&s will be his choice, and the group's wizard can make them. So I will have a monk with a speed of 100 and the Spring Attack feat chain. That's just marvelous. :D

Have fun, Dr.

You know, I have read many threads on these boards about how monks suck, got the shaft, cannot stun anything, etc., but I can say from my own experience as a DM with a monk PC that the player, myself, and the group as a whole have had loads of fun with the monk. He does not have the highest AC, the most HP, the most damage capability, but he is by far the most exciting PC in the group. I am having fun just thinking up new ways to describe his actions when he attacks or jumps and attacks, etc. I just fail to see how anyone can say that monks are not a great class. The one in my game makes our game sessions a blast.

I agree. One of my players used to have a hell of a time playing a monk. Almost every single time he attacked someone, he'd get all Jet Li descriptive like, and it was like watching a movie. I got a real kick out of it. Unfortunately, as a DM, I find myself neglecting the monk as an NPC. In my defense though, I have a hard time finding the right "place" for a monk in my games. I have yet to have a fitting roll as an NPC, but I look forward to it.
