Monk's stunning attack and "full round"

It is also a class feature that is not focused on doing letheal damage. If someone is stunned, it is easier to disarm them, pick up their weapon while they are stunned, grapple them, tie them up, etc... TONS more options in combat other than just killing again (which stun is also useful for). My party likes to have the monk stun bodyguards, then the rest of the party simply runs around them to get the 'main' target while the guards can't AoO.

In 3E (or soon to be 3.5E) combat is all about more options instead of 2 ways to kill, fighters and fireballs.

What is - that stun makes you drop stuff (in which case the released section of the SRD is wrong - wouldn't be the first time :p) or that stun no longer makes you drop stuff (in which case the SRD is right) :D

IceBear

That being stunned makes you drop stuff.

No monks can't coup de grace stunned opponents. Coup de grace requires an opponent to be helpless, stunned is a different condition to helpless.

Actually the only times I saw a monk win against a fighter in pure melee combat was because of the monks stunning fist... The fighter had bad luck two or three times in a row and the monk hit well...

Hmm. I hear here all the time about the "useless" stunning fist... I never saw it that useless. IMHO, especially at the low levels where everyone is complaining about the "weak" monk, he can stun a fighter with about 50% chance of success. I'd say that's a lot.

To make stun really good, if you use Sword & Fist, pick up Ki Straps (gloves of +5DC stunning, [retty cheap, too) and the Pain Touch feat, which causes your opponents to be nauseated (almost as good as stunned) for one round after being stunned (Although it requires a 19 Wis, iirc)

Well, once the Monk hits that Fighter he has about a 50/50 chance of Stunning him. But hitting isnt going to happen very often with the Monks rather average STR and BAB. OTOH, its a given that the Fighter is going to hit more often, and hit harder. And when he hits, he's threatening to kill the poor Monk, not do a little damage and some fancy-pants Stunning. I know who I'd put my money on in a fight.

Whats frustrating about the ability is that at low levels you have very few Stuns. I could kick a bunch of Kobold butt with Stuns, but it ends up like this, "Hmm, use one of my three Stuns on a Kobold? Nah, I think I'll save it." Then an Ogre pops out and suddenly its, "I use my Stun! Ooops, I missed. I use my second Stun next round! I hit! He saved on a 6? His CON is like +8? OK, whatever. I use my last Stun. I miss. Whatever."

I cant knock Stun too much because its essentially free. Still, I'd probably trade it for any good Feat of my choice.
