Monster classes - Level Progressions for Dragons?

Roman

First Post
Savage species allows the possibility of players playing various monsters including dragons. So... I am wondering, has anyone created monster classes for the different dragon types? The ECL for dragons is (obviously) too high to begin being a dragon at a low (1-5) level without such classes spliting up progression of all the dragon abilities. Thanks!

I think that something like this is coming up in the Dragon anniversary issue.

I'm going a different route, by way of "Age Templates". This allows Dragons and other long-lived, intelligent creatures (like Sphinx) to gain Class Levels while retaining their physical traits as a product of their age.

The whole "growth by Experience Points" deal just never sat right with me...

ECL's for playing dragons of different age categories and types is included as part of WotC's Draconomicon book.

Well, I see what you mean, but 'Dragon Levels' do a better job of dealing with ECL.

True, but they are very high so a low level character is (rightly) not going to be able to be even a full-blown wyrmling dragon. That is why I am looking for Savage Species-like moster class progressions for dragons, where characters can begin at 1st level and not have all wyrmling abilities and gradually get them as they advance. Nobody has seen anything like this?

Hmm, is there any way I could get access to these templates somehow? ;)

On an unrelated note, Bendris, what happened to 'The Reprieve'? It used to be a nice site, but now it is inaccessible.

I dont think ti would be too hard to work out using those ECL's as a guideline. Simply note what benefits a dragon recieves at each ECL and then split those abilities amongst a number of levels equal to the ECL. BAB and saves progressions are easy to work out as are stat increases etc.. simply by looking at what is gained at each age category in the MM.

I've found that taking 1/2 of CR and tacking it onto the HD of the monster has worked rather well for an LA for a guestimate.
