Monster Idea thread

First Post
So this is kind of a place where I will dump all of the ideas for monsters that I never did anything with or thought was cool that I saw in a TV show or something.

First Idea:

From the TV show Supernatural, the Alpha Shifter, of Alpha Doppleganger, advanced Doppleganger, in any case, whatever I decide to call it, it would be able to immediately and perfectly shift into anyone it has seen or is seeing, for example in the show, it sees Deans Grandpa, shifts into him, then sees Sam, shifts into a perfect replica of him, sees Dean and shifts into him before going off. really strong, and can take 5 crossbow shots without flinching.

Just another random idea in my head for this thing, maybe make it immune to critical hits (Maybe Dopplegangers already are) and give it lots of hit points or fast healing/regeneration, along with the ability to turn into a perfect replica of something, undiscernable from the original, even by magical means, and just that it is very angry at someone for whatever reason.

Sounds like the Greater Dopperganger. You could just use the scion rules, and just build on it. I do think they are immune to critical hits, and other immunities as well. Not to mention that you could form some pretty good plots using them as well.

In as old game, we were investigating instances that surrounded mysterious disappearances, and reappearances of missing people. It turned out that a few doppelganger was lead by a greater and trying to take over the local lord, just to cause mischief. Not for any other reason, but you could also use other plots and twists. I.e, One of the local lords enemies, maybe a powerful wizard or an entity could be using the doppelganger to infiltrate the lords cabinet, or just to give the local lord a bad name. Any plot could work, and it is fun to watch the players go livid when they become the focus of the doppelgangers mischief. Especially if the PCs are well known in your campaign world, not only would they have to find a way to clear their name, they would have to find out who or what is going on.

This is going back a loooong time...but could, kinda be considered a take-off of a tv monster...Tiamat from the D&D cartoon. ;)

I had a group that went to the Abyss, might even have been to face Tiamat or get/take something from her...I don't quite recall why they were there. (It was hundreds of moons ago)

ANYwho, they were five "beings" who had been the last party to attack her in her own plane/lair. The battle had gone badly and with a wish spell the party sorceress (plain ole "MU" back then). In the critical final moment, last one standing, she wished "each party member had the power to face Tiamat."

The wish was granted but, she had failed to say she wanted them "to DEFEAT Tiamat."

So, they were each transformed into elemental incarnations of Tiamat's breath weapons. Individually, incredibly powerful and together a truly horrific force. But even with "A" power each, even collectively, they could not defeat the Dragon Queen and fell under her thrall.

These five were returned to the Prime Material and sought out/destroyed any who would seek to gain access to Tiamat's Lair.

I don't have stat specifics, but I'm sure you can work out some fun stuff based on the following:
The fighter/leader gained the power of the Blue. A humanoid being of electrical energy. He could summon a long sword of pure lightning, hurl lightning bolts, force fields, fly (his lower-half becoming lightning, like Black Vulcan from the Superfriends. lol.), shocking grasp all day if he wanted to. Transform into pure lightning for teleportation-like movement.

The rogue gained the power of the Green. She maintained a green-hued gaseous form. Capable of generating stinking clouds, cloudkills, flight, walls of (chlorine) "fog", solid (chlorine) fog and shifting her appearance, well did I mention the gaseous form? Kinda hard to pin down.

A half-elf ranger was transformed with the power of the White. He had a "Frost Brand" style spear that could shoot shards of ice, cones of cold, superhard ice-body/armor (like Iceman from the X-men) flight on the cyclone of arctic winds that composed his lower half and ice storms.

Another character gained the powers of the Black. Able to assume liquid (acidic) form. Throw balls of acid or create a rain-like area effect of the stuff. Create a "wall of sticking cloud" with the acidic fumes or a raising walls of actual acid to dissolve incoming attacks.

And the poor elvin wizardess, who thought she had the trump card and cursed her party and herself for eternity, gained the power of the Red. A form of pure fire. Flight, walls of fire, pyrotechnics, fireballs as the day is long (20d6, as most of their main offensive abilities were, as I recall), etc. etc.

Practically all of their powers except their "big guns" were at will.

MY group had run-ins with each of them, individually or in pairs, over a long span of time. When each battle was going badly, the villains would retreat in such a manner that following was not really an option. A couple they ran into more than once. When my party finally got to Tiamat's level on the Abyss (many quests later), they faced all 5 at once.

They were very very tough to beat. But I'd never seen my group so proud of themselves to defeat a (collective) "Big Bad" before. There was much cheering and rejoicing and, I daresay, the players thoroughly enjoyed them as villains. They had colorful nicknames for them: "that Fire Chick", "the Lightning Dude", there were others...more "colorful."

They were good fun...Gods, I haven't thought of them in years!
Thanks.
