Hi, everyone!

I’m currently working on Monster Manual Expanded 2024, which updates and converts every entry from the original 2019 edition to the new 2024 Monster Manual rules. This project is a massive and tedious overhaul that involves extensive rewriting and balancing. I’m also adding several new stat blocks to fill in gaps left by the new Monster Manual (Azer, Lizardfolk, etc.). It might also have a new cover art for it. Because of the scale of this work, it won’t be a free upgrade for owners of the original book, but there will definitely be a substantial discount for you if you are.

Here’s a quick preview of the Ankheg section (statblock designs are not yet final) from the upcoming Monster Manual Expanded 2024, which is planned for release sometime before or early second quarter of 2026.

Honestly If I were in your position I'm not sure I'd bother with the tedium. You've already revised the book once, after all!

Still, good luck. These are still some of my favorite products on the Guild.

You mention balancing being a factor- are the monsters seeing alterations? What kind? Just flat out making them put out more damage, or?
I hope that’s not the case, but for many of the simpler stat blocks, it may come down to slightly inflating hit points or damage to match the new balance approach.

While most stat blocks in the Monster Manual 2024 appear to have higher hit points, greater damage output, or more attacks per round relative to their Challenge Rating (compared to the 2014 original), I plan to balance these updates by also factoring in features, defenses, and other conditions rather than relying solely on raw numbers.

My goal is to use the Monster Manual 2024 as a guide for achieving better balance and streamlining, while still trying to ensure that I keep most of the original fun elements I designed, or introduce new ones that might be more fun and exciting for the DM. For example, the greater and ancient banshee's death wail will now recharge instead of just 1/day use (and thus keeping players on their toes), the greater basilisk's poison breath no longer deals poison damage, but instead applies a poisoned condition that makes targets have disadvantage on Constitution saves, etc.

It’s been six years since I first created those stat blocks, and I’ve developed many new fun ideas through my Deadly Denizens series that may creep their way into the revised 2024 Monster Manual Expanded. Each stat block will be carefully reviewed and adjusted on a case-by-case basis.
