Monster Manual II Art Gallery!

Re: Re: MM2 and CC

I do know that there will be CC monsters in the MMII. It seems pretty obvious that the bone ooze is the undead ooze, and that the razor boar is the iron tusker. The chaos roc might be the cerulean roc.

Of course, if my theroy about the monster picture groups is correct, then the bone ooze is the only one (that I can see ). :(

I think you're right about the bone ooze. Even though I reread the description in the CC, I still think it's possible razor boar and the Iron Tusker are the same. Your thought about the Chaos roc might be dead on as well.

Kaluta did a great Tolkien calendar a few years back, though. I don't know why his work in D&D sucks so much, as he obviously has talent.

I have that calendar! :)

Yes, it's definitely great, which begs the question of how he could have missed by so much on some of his MoF baddies (if not all!).

Is there any site where we can see the pictures of that calendar (even if they must be the size of my thumb)?

I just would like to believe the guy can do a good job.

I think so. Now I admit I'm a fanatic Knight Otu,...
You don't have to admit it - everybody already knows that. ;)

I certainly hope that I am right. After all, the chaos/cerulean roc idea came from me (even though you didn't credit me on the WotC boards :p). :)

Wait a second. People actually LIKE Glen Angus?

I must be confusing the guy with someone else.

Wasn't it Glen Angus who did Apollo in D&Dg? And also the queer (to use a Lovecraftian word) Corellon Larethian?

Please tell me we are not talking about the same guy....

No. Glen Angus did Apollo, NOT Larethian. The styles are not even remotely similar.
The Apollo illustration is a little out there, and as such may not suit everyone's tastes, but you can't possibly fault the technique. His illustrations are among the best in the whole book. Especially when compaired with travesties like Dionysus and Aphrodite.

Bronze Dragon, here's the link you were looking for. In retrospect, the pics don't look as incredible as I remembered them to be, although I think that the "Éowyn Before the Doors of Meduseld" pic looks pretty sweet.

They're also missing the one pic I liked the most back when that calendar was on my wall, the one where the Witch-King enters the fray.

Anyway, here's the calendar pics.

Yeah, you're missing Eowyn and the Witch-king! That gallery's no good! :)

And you have to admit, the quality level of those Tolkien works are just head and shoulders above the MM and MoF illustrations he did. It's like he really took the Tolkien calendar seriously, but the D&D stuff he just tossed off quickly.

NOTE: this link has the full gallery. Personally, although it's less exciting, his December piece with Meriadoc back in Brandy Hall regaling the hobbit kids with tales of adventure, was always a nice touch and one of my favorites as well.
