Monster Manual II Art Gallery!

Well, he probably DID toss those off quickly.

I'm not an expert in the matter (although I do draw a great deal), and I certainly don't know what kind of deadlines WotC imposes on its artists, but my impression was that most of the production time of the monster was spent writing up and playtesting monsters, not illustrating them.

They probably had much more time to prepare for MM1, as well. They must have commissioned Lockwood's Dragons in advance for them to look that good :D

Of course, he DOES consistently publish superb artwork, so he may just be that amazingly good...

Is Glenn Angus the artist who did Apollo with the gigantic arms and tiny waist, with that weird helm?

'Cause if that's him, I REALLY didn't like what he did.
Although his Athena was a bit more palatable.

I thought the D&D Pantheon was great, except for that godawful piece of Easley art he called Kord. Oh yeah, and Corellon Larethian. Ouch.

Lolth I thought looked wicked.

De gustibus et coloribus non disputandum est.

You don't have to admit it - everybody already knows that. ;)

Well as long as everyone knows. ;)

I certainly hope that I am right. After all, the chaos/cerulean roc idea came from me (even though you didn't credit me on the WotC boards :p). :)

I didn't?! Doh. I'm sorry Otu. I'll go back and edit to put the credit where credit is due.

Man, I have most of those Kaluta pics in my huge Tolkien folder!

And I like most of them!

I just never got really interested in knowing who made the pics. Kaluta can surely draw WAY better than his work for D&D shows.

About Angus, I really dislike his work. Most of the time it is too bright and the figures are, well, too defined for my tastes. There is hardly a blur anywhere, and it makes the pics feel unnatural, as Hamwise Gamgee would put it...

The D&Dg is not at my home presently, so I can't check the credits, but the guy who made Corellon should be shot in one of the hands for that pic. Just compare it with the Corellon in the cover of Demihuman Deities. And I don't even like elves...

It seems I happen to dislike two of the artists that people like the most, Reynolds and Angus...funny. The only guy I haven't seen taking any heavy Flak is Sam Wood.

This has to become a new thread....
