Monster Origins

Oh, bother.

There was a thread a long time ago listing the mythical (or otherwise) origins of D&D monsters (I think BOZ did put it together in the first place, but I could be wrong on that ). Copied it onto my hard drive and have read it often, but now it's GONE. Been checking the boards, can't find anything like it anywhere. Bummer!

Can anybody he'p me with this? Provide a link? Repost it?

I think that was part of the old message boards, and until we are allowed access to those archives those threads are lost to us.

Why not just make a new one?

Heres a small contribution:

Manticore = Indian Folklore
Medusa = The Greeks
Sphinx = Ancient Babylonia (originally, later adopted by the greeks.)
Centaur = Greeks (probably based on the amazons, who where a real people by the way.)
Tiamat = Ancient Babylonia
Dragons = All over the place, serpentine dragons from asia, winged probably from babylonia.
