D&D 5E Monster Relationships

Boarstorm

First Post
Does anyone know of a place/has anyone done the work to mark out what the relationships are as depicted in the monster manual between the various creatures?

For example, the Intellect Devourer lures rubes to Mind Flayers. The book is full of such connections. Has anyone collected them all so that we can say, "Hey, I want to run X" and immediately have in front of us all the creatures that might logically (again, assuming their default) run alongside that creature?

It seems like a handy tool to have, from an adventure-building standpoint.

The relationships?

O M G! You need to get caught up from last season.

Well... the manticore and the wyvern were having a bit of a spat over hunting grounds. No one is going near their place til that gets worked out. The Remorhaz filed a complaint against the yetis because they were pooping in his yard but nothing has been done about it yet. Rumor has it that the Glabrezu and the Marilith broke up but nobody's talkin and it's kind of a he said, she said kind of thing.

In episode 12 the gelatinous cube and the otyugh were arguing over who got to eat that low level party that wandered down to level 5. The otyugh claims to have spotted them first but the gelatinous cube is accusing the otyugh of being full of s%&*#.

Those are the highlights. :p

Don't forget the subtle looks the Blue dragon was giving the Red dragon. I think we are going to get a purple dragon this coming season!

(Note: I'm adding more to this post as I notice/remember them.)

We can start in this thread, perhaps? Here's a few:

Chimeras were created by Demogorgon

Chuul were/are servants of the aboleth

Efreet tried to enslave the azers, failed, tried again with the salamanders, and succeeded

Flumphs feed on the psionic energy of aboleths, mind flayers, and gith (and so can eavesdrop on their thoughts)

Gas spores grow on the corpses of beholders (among other corpses)

Gnools were created from hyenas who fed on Yeenoghu's kills

Goblinoids work together, goblins ride wolves and keep rats, hobgoblins ride worgs and keep ravens as messengers and wolves and carnivorous apes as guard animals

Gith, grimlocks, and kuo-toa all have histories of being subject to mind-flayers

Merrows are merfolk warped by Demogorgon

Piercers are the larval form of ropers

Slaadi were inadvertently created by Primus

Feywild origins: fomorians, displacer beasts (bred by the Unseelie Court), blink dogs (bred by the Seelie Court), probably more
