From what I understand there are multiple layers, one layer which allows you to write on it with dry erase markers and it is also backed by a magnet or felt. He says that these are as thick as a quarter though.

I never collected miniatures but always wanted nice monsters to put on the battlemap. These seem like a bargain for the price. I look forward to receiving my armies!
