Monsters as PCs

the kobold will start out much weaker than the lizardman (which "feels" right -- it's just a kobold) -- but by 5th level, the kobold is a 5th level character, a legend among kobolds

I so like the sound of that.

I was once was asked if I'd like to join a game my friend's friend was DMing (the game is still going on). I heard he was a pretty decent at it, but had a tendency to play D&D as a pretty much as a simple dungeon crawl, which I hear was not the case with other system, don't know why that was. Anyway, not knowing where I'd be poking my head into, I said I'd come play if I could play a Storm Giant or a Rakshasha. I was told via friend that there was a chance that I might be fiddled into it. I went pretty much :-S because I would never let one of my players play such a race, especially when everyone else played a normal PC race. Then I said I changed my mind and wanted to play a delver instead. Now that I haven't heard of them since I know the DM isn't completely bonkers and I wouldn't mind trialing out if I had the time.

Oh, by this I don't mean to say not play monsters as PC, I like the idea, I just wanted to relay with this almost relevant story that you should take care screening viable races. Which was mentioned earlier multiple times.

Making this post..? Utterly pointless.
