Monsters in art gallerys, but not in the books

Shade

Monster Junkie
I've noticed quite a few monsters have appeared in the online art galleries, but haven't made it into a product yet. Some, like the sea drake, appeared in one book's art gallery and then made it into a different book.

Here's what I've found thus far, and the art gallery they appear in:

Aundair Dragonhawk (Eberron Campaign Setting)
Brawny (Claw) Monster (MM 3.0 concept art)
Bug Trooper (MM 3.0 concept art)
Cold Spirit (MM2)
Crystal Scorpion (Sandstorm; no art, but mentioned several times in book)
Deeplost (Races of Stone; I'm betting this was a template)
Dune Reapers (MM2)
Fallen Hound Archon (Fiend Folio; WOTC said this will never appear)
Filth Demon (MM 3.0 concept art)
Silt Horrors (MM2)
Tribex (Eberron Campaign Setting)
Urd (MM 3.0 concept art)
Wasteland Giant (Sandstorm)

What am I missing?

wow, that's a lot - but at least most of them are still in consideration for printing eh?

i'm telling you - FR needs a new MM-sized monster book. there are more than enough, including not-yet-converted ones, to fill a book of that size - probably two, even.

And I think I'm missing a few, too!

I defnitely agree that a hardcover Monsters of Faerun is overdue. I'd love to see them stick with monsters that have their roots in FR, so as not to ruffle the feathers of FR-hatin' folks who don't want to see their classic favorites "condemned" to an FR supplement.

Of those I listed, I bet the only ones that will never see the light of day are the fallen hound archon, and the critters from the MM concept art (except the urd...I'll bet they return, probably "reimagined"). ;)

Actually, the "bug trooper" appeared in the Living Greyhawk Journal as the "phalanx insect".

It's a shame that so many critters have been left out. Although I'm happy that no fallen celestial template will ever come out of WotC... I just can't see them doing it right. They'd end up making it more powerful, say CR +2, when it really should get less powerful upon falling.

Ahh yes, but after all the fall is a punishment, and giving an evil celestial the power to do more evil stuff is hardly in Heaven's best interests. ;)

Wouldn't it be that the celestial used evil means gained that power, and was thrown out of heaven and lost some celestial powers. Making it an even +0?

Well... I'll concede that it depends on the cosmology.

If fallen celestials are angels who used underhanded means to gain power, then yeah, you're right. On the other hand, if they're celestials who simply rebelled against their superiors' laws, as in the Biblical model (for instance, Semyaza and the Watchers weren't out for more power, they just lusted after mortals), then a decrease in power might be appropriate.

But I've derailed this thread far enough. I won't belabor my point.

I compared the artwork of the two, and the artwork is different. However, they are probably the same creature.

Well, I picked up Frostburn and MM3 last night, and I'm happy to report that the slaughterstone, slaughterstone eviscerator, and warforged charger are all in the MM3.
