Monsters in the SRD but not in the Monster Manual?

Felon

First Post
I was recently browsing through Sovelier's most excellent SRD site, and I stumbled across an entry for a creature called a bralani. I knew I didn't recall seeing any such critter in the Monster Manual, so I checked, and sure enough it isn't there.

I've known for some time that not all MM creatures made it into the SRD, but I was unaware of any cases of the reverse. Does anyone know where the bralani came from and why it's in the SRD? Are there any other non-MM monsters in there?

Actually, the Bralani is in the MM, just not under its own entry. If you look under the "Eladrin" entry, it's there.

"Eladrin" apparently, isn't something that they wanted to open-source...which is odd because the legal section of the SRD doesn't include it in the list of PI.

Oh well - if Eladrin didn't make it into the SRD at all, there was no need to put it in the list of PI.

Cheers!

By that reasoning, there's no reason to declare terms such as "tanar'ri" and "baatezu" PI either, since they're not in there that I've seen.

Ah, cool. Didn't see it there. I thought it was some sort of elemental, not a celestial.

Correct. :)

There's been some debate over whether those terms have meaning - if a term is declared PI and isn't in the document, what's up?

Basically, it just reinforces that "These terms aren't OGC, okay?" - something that you might forget if you've been using the MM as a reference rather than the SRD. (Prime mistake of writing d20 System material is to forget to check that the stuff you're referencing is actually OGC!)

Cheers!

However, as I've read the posts in this more thoroughly and found that they've seemed to inadvertently open-source Eladrin rather than not include it at all - I'll disappear off to some other thread. :)

Cheers!

Actually, Eladrin, Archon, Guardinal and Angel are in the SRD.

Look at the Summon Monster spells, you'll see things like "Bralani (Eladrin)" the same way you'll see "Marilith (Demon)".

However, they merely didn't wanted to group the monsters the same way they did in the MM.
