The Monsters of Arcanis: Borne of Nightmares Open Call

Hello everyone,

Paradigm Concepts, Inc is looking for new and exciting creatures to fill out our first Monster book. We’re looking for original and interesting creatures to challenge our Arcaniacs (no Open Content material, please).

We have a very specific layout in mind for the product and have a sample of a one page monster entry. The PDF can be found at:

http://www.paradigmconcepts.com/home/downloads/Basic_monster_entry.pdf

We do have a few requirements for the entries:

• If a one page entry, please limit the word count to 550 words plus the Monster’s Stat block. This will allow us to make it fit neatly on one page.

• A two page entry should be used only for “Boss” monsters or an entire new species write up. The word count for this type of entry should be a minimum of 1250 words to a maximum of 1550 words.

• Fey and Dragon-subtype (i.e. Human/Dragon half breeds) do not exist upon Arcanis.

Submissions must be received no later than May 15th, 2004. Submissions should be in Word or RTF format and be attached to the email sent. If you have more than one entry, you may include these all in one document and attach to an email to us.

Email the submissions to: PCIHenry@aol.com . Remember to include all of your contact information including your full name, mailing address and phone number.

Entries that have not met the criteria noted above will not be considered. Writers will be paid .03 cents/word for their work. All purchased material becomes the property of Paradigm Concepts, Inc. If more than 5,000 words are purchased, you’ll also receive a complimentary copy of The Monsters of Arcanis: Borne of Nightmares.

Thank you,

One question: is the sample the writing style format you'll be using or just for an idea of layout? I ask this because, if it writing style, who it is that is meant to be speaking of his experiences with the creatures before the combat section?

Sorry to be dense, but...you mean anything of the Fey type or Anything (Dragon) subtype don't exist, right? Creatures of the Dragon type are still A-OK?

Cheers
Nell.

The writing style is merely a sample or placeholder. Write in whatever voice and style you are comfortable with. We would just like for that section to be of use to new GMs who wish to give a description of a creature the first time it is encountered rather than saying, "You see 3 Hobgoblins in the room."

If I understand what you mean by 'Creatures of the Dragon' to mean new Dragon types like a Mauve Dragon or a Serpentine Dragon, then yes they can exist. What I meant by no Dragon-Subtypes is no Half-Dragon/Half-Ogres types or something like the Draconics from DragonLance.

Most of the Dragons in Arcanis were hunted down and destroyed by the Valinor and Celestial Giants. Only the most ancient of their species exist as they were too powerful to kill and so were bound instead.

Fey creatures (as in Pixies, Brownies, Leprechauns, etc) just never existed.

Hope that helps.

Answers it exactly. Time to brush up on my Arcanis.

One more Q: what's your word limit/goal for templates?

I don't really have a specific word count in mind for the template. Use as much as you feel necessary to be complete and accurate.
