Monsters with Descriptive Names?

Where-[insert animal type]: Normal-seeming animal with the ability to hide in plain sight.

There-[insert animal type]: Normal-seeming animal with the ability to locate object and locate creature.

Azer: Pronounced "Ey-zer!" Friendly outsiders with thick french accents.
Orc: Whale with poor spelling.
Homonculus: The opposite of a Heteronculus
Rakshasa: The little creature stuck in maracas that gives them their distinctive sound.
Basilisk: Frightening creature that comes in large mouth and small mouth varieties.
Centaur: Even if you pick one up it won't pay for anything.
Drider: Humanoids that ride an animated letter "D" around.
Kobold: The opposite of a koward.
Ow...l'bear!: What an "Ey-zer" says when getting mauled by a grizzly.
Nightshade: Creature that hangs around streetlights.
Spider-Eater: Some idiot you work with who will do anything for ten bucks.
Wight: The opposite of a Blaghk.
 

Allip: Things which live below Annose
Assassin Vine: Makes "special" wine. Also good for clothes, rope and soap
Barghest: Fancy word for people frequenting taverns
Basilisk: Lizard made from fragrant herbs. Tastes good with tomato
Bulette: A small bul
Choker: A helpful monster which gets your car started on cold mornings
Djinn: A sort of spirit which makes your wishes come true - then maliciously takes them away in the morning after hitting you on head
Retriever: A demon which takes the form of a large, friendly dog
Unicorn: There's only one orn left. This is it
Yugoloth: A sort of East European fiend shaped like a metal box on wheels. Rumoured to be able to move. Not very impressive

I actually did something like that once... the PCs entered a room, saw a beholder, attacked it...and out comes a swarm of bees—It was actually a beehive in the shape of a beholder, hanging on a wire.

I was inspired by the old gas spores from 1ed.
