"Monte Cook Presents" Iron Heroes?

I know this is coming in rather late in the whole subject of Iron Lore/Heroes (as there are not a few pages of posts on this product in this forum) but should they all be moved into the D20 System fourm? I mean Arcana Unearthed gets shoved over there... Grim Tales gets shoved over there...

IME, they stay in general until the thing gets released.

IMO in terms of the issue at hand, it is literally true. Monte is presenting this, he's heavilly involved in putting together the playtesting, the advertising, the printing, and so forth. He's the one who has to make the announcement when the name is going to change. His proverbial butt is on the line for this product.

RPGs require a lot more work in the broader sense than novels do, in many ways its always been ridiculous to pretend there was an author for any of these books or that the author was as important as he would be in a work in another medium.

It strikes me as being a lot more appropriate than a lot of what we see in terms of how work and credit are recognized in the industry and in the audience.

I'm tempted to take a pass on this book for this reason alone, as this kind of needless self-promotion strikes me as exceedingly vulgar ...

What an odd statement. Self-promotion is never needless. You should promote yourself at every opportunity. What, we should heap admiration on humble, self-effacing people?

It isn't promoting his name. It is using his name to promote the product. Like the Robert Ludlum series where other people write the books but his name is on the cover because it is "his universe". Or Tom Clancy's "whatever" in video games and even novels now. Or Quentin Tarantino presents "Hero". It is name recognition and smart marketing. Advertising isn't crass or tasteless, it is vital to a business that wants to, you know, make money.

Agreed. Besides, monte cook's name will sell more copies of "Iron Heroes" (not Iron Lore anymore, folks!). And that is a good thing, because that will lead to more books being made in the "Iron Heroes" line.
