Monte Cook speaks ... and he doesn't hate 3.5!

Emiricol said:
You quibble semantics to avoid the point of this. He said a lot of things. People with a particular agenda (3.5 is baaaad) are quoting half, without the rest.

That IS taking things out of context. Which is de facto misquoting, since a quote is supposed to convey the opinion of the person quoted.
I assume that is a reply to my post? In any case, it's absolutely not true. Nobody is quoting half, with an agenda or without. Both threads started with a complete quote, which included, even, the part Monte says no one is referring to. That may be so, but it's not being left off, or not presented.

That phrase refers to specific rules changes, not the entire nature of the project. You're not fooling anyone, here.

WotC initially stated in, December 2002, that the changes included in the corebooks would be fully compatible with the backlist of products. Go and check the FAQ on their website, and see for yourself. Full backwards compatibility was claimed. The changes were to be small.

Then they changed their minds.
Well, did they change their minds or are they lying? Make up your mind. If they told us one thing, and that was their intention at the time, then they're not lying.

It seems to me, that you go around complaining about WotC and 3.5 at every opportunity you can. I'm not quite sure exactly what your beef is, as it seems to be inconsistent and gut-reaction rather than reasonable or reasoned.

Read the first post, again.

Monte: "And the assertation that WotC is giving away 3.5 for free is absurd. That may be the result, but it's not at ALL the intent. WotC is hoping--nay, gambling--that no one will use just the SRD, and will buy the new books. The SRD is for d20 publishers, not fans. Sure, gamers can look at the SRD too, but that's not why it's there. Don't believe me? Scan the PH and post it on your website and see how fast you get an email from WotC legal."

It's all about intentions, my friend.
I don't get this. Monte claims that WotC is in business with the intention of making sales. Whoop-dee-do. Who cares about their intentions? As Psion said at one point (which I thought was kinda clever) this isn't an evil money-making scheme, this is a pretty everyday money-making scheme. I don't understand the what's causing all your rancor.

I just want to post as a regular guy (Im taking my D&D Uber Nerd hat off for a second) and say I think that Monte is a good dude. He tries to clear the air, and in my book he has. Every time I see a thread he posts in, he has been professional and helpful. Cheers, Monte.

Monte Good!

Yes Monte is one of the most professional "Name" level people in the industry, plus the one time I meet him while at the release of 3ed he came across as a very nice and professional guy.

That's hilarious. "Who cares about their intentions?" That's the whole point, Joshua -- the intentions . . . the motivations behind the timing of the revision. That's why Monte said that it was pretty "crappy" for the customers. He didn't say 3.5 was crappy; he was talking about the motivations of Hasbro and the timing of the revision.

So, "Who cares about their intentions?"

I do.

LOL!

Now we know where Emiricol stands. Even the Chaotic are up in arms! (Albeit strangely sheepish about it)

Or have you forgetten about that photo of you in the "I CARE About Jody Butt" t-shirt? I'm sure Eric or Morrus or Piratecat still have a copy.

What, you mean this one?

It's not Hong, but I'm pretty sure it's designed by him... :D
