If the cover is any indication of the type of content we might be seeing, I'd have to say this is a Post Apocalyptic setting, unless that guy is in the Umbra.

I'm just curious, but is the NEW WOD rule set considered a 3rd edition?

No. The 1st edition of the World of Darkness was a pretty terrible world gazeteer in the early 1990s. The thing called World of Darkness (a core rulebook mostly bereft of setting info) has never really existed as a White Wolf product before the current edition.

Even Vampire, Mage, Werewolf and so on don't really work that way:

There have been four editions of Vampire, including Vampire: The Requiem. Ditto Werewolf and Mage.

There have been only two editions of Changeling, with a third edition coming later this year.

There have been two editions of Mummy, one edition of Prometheans, one edition of Wraith and one edition of Orpheus.

Thanks for the Feedback.

My theory is completely smashed, then. I don't see any other explanation than this is going to be a D20/OGL supplement.

I would have bought it regardless, but now I'm even more intruiged.

Still intriguing to consider getting it anyways

That press release says nothing about it using the Storytelling system while, conversely, the Amazon cover pic does say that it will be "for Revised Third Edition Rules" -- we've known that it would be a White Wolf product all along (note that White Wolf also published all of the Malhavoc Press material for D&D).

From the Gama trade show:

A World in Darkness
One year ago, eldritch horrors of cosmic malevolence called the Inconnu attempted to destroy our reality. They failed, but the attempt left the world in rapidly-darkening shadow. Dead souls returned to claim living bodies, creating blood-drinking undead fiends: vampires. Bestial spirits came as well, to create werewolves, and demons formed bodies from worldly matter. Magic crashed back into the world, and mages wield its power for whatever purpose suits them. Humans called the Awakened unknowingly keep the darkness at bay. These supernatural creatures struggle against each other and clash in the shadows, most attempting to destroy the world, but some few fighting to preserve it. And over it all, the Icconu {sic} still lurk, squeezing the world like an eggshell.

The World of Darkness Re-Imagined {tm}
This book includes a complete setting: a new vision of the World of Darkness.
* Characters play as vampires, mages, werewolves, demons, or Awakened. They wield frightening supernatural powers against their own kind.
* The world is the one we know, but now much darker: destruction in the central US, nightmares coming to life, and beasts roaming shattered cityscapes.
* Uses the most popular roleplaying system in the world.
