I won't disagree with the idea of Mooks in general but I can't quite bring myself to do it. The main reason is that there have been too many times when I've had some meaningless, nameless bad guy who the PC's simply cannot seem to land a telling blow on. He makes every saving throw. They can't seem to hit him. When they do hit him they do minimum damage. Yet every time he swings he rolls a 20 for huge damage.
And suddenly this guy is like a folk hero to the PC's. They respect him for being so lucky and simutaneously hate him to the very core of their souls. They have been known to leap into the air and high five each other when they FINALLY put down, "Orc Warrior 3".
I just don't think I'm ready to give that up.
