Moradin and the dwarf who has lost his way.

I have a CN dwarf in my campaign who has come into the position of a powerful magic item dedicated to Moradin. The only way I can describe this dwarf is that he is a bit antithetical to most ideals of what dwarves are.

I dislike CN alignments but I don't forbid them in my campaign.

The question is now that this character has come to Moradin's attention just how should I deal with it?

I don't want to force an alignment change on the character but I do want to make it clear that he is unwelcome and distrusted by most dwarves.

After a bit of thought this is what I plan to do. The existing dwarven clan hierarchy doesn't much trust this backsliding dwarf. He doesn't seem to have much respect for dwarven ways but he also has never done anything to harm the clans.

I should make it clear to the character how the clans perceive him. A few extra difficult missions might be suggested to the character. Things like 'Go take care of that ancient red dragon' that is pestering the trade routes. It would probably be looked upon as a 'win-win' situation for the clan leaders. If the CN dwarf succeeds, then the red dragon problem is taken care of. If the CN dwarf dies, well we don't have to deal with that walking embarrassment to the dwarven way.

The clan leadership doesn't know about the Moradin aligned magic item yet...

Wow, with treatment like that of dwarf brethern, I would walk away from the clan myself if I were a dwarf. Last thing I want is those dwarven elders sending me on some supposedly cozy mission only to find out I accidently insulted them and this is their way of dealing with me.

Some thoughts....
I would have him be the outsider no one trusts because it is quite apparent that he is only out for himself. As he is not really caring to add to the well-being of the whole of dwarves, he could be ushered along not to stay in fellow dwarves' house, and pretty much ignored to be a lone wolf not deserving anyone's attention unless he does something out of character (good or bad).
Since he somehow got this thing from Moradin, it might come to the attention of the leadership somehow that he has it, and they summon him to see it. Once they behold the artifact they realize they have been mistreating him the entire time, and try to welcome him as a misunderstood brother come to lead/teach them the latest ways of Moradin. From then on have him be the first dwarf they call upon to deal with every frightening issue where dwarven life is threatened, as if he were LG. See if the player likes it and goes with it or not. If not, let him be the misunderstood selfish dwarf who happens to be in Moradin's favor for the time being and let them never ask him for a favor again.

Well, he got the item by the time honored method of raiding a dungeon. (In particular, the Dungeon adventure with the large of number Slaadi running around. I just switch the scepter that cast a prismatic ray for my home made Moradin dwarf item.).

I like the idea of the clan elders trying to bring him back into the fold. It does seem to be the more LG kind of thing to do rather than being callous about the situation. It could make for some entertaining Role Playing between the PC and the clan elders. Especially there is a good chance the CN dwarf will show up drunk to what-ever meeting he attends.

thanks for the feed back.
