More players than you care to DM?

I just had to turn one away yesterday. I've already got 6-7 and 8 just seems too many to me. I prefer 5.

Same here. I prefer 5 but I have 7. Can't turn away friends. Ah well, I also run a smaller game with only 4 players. It's much easier to run a game with so few.

I had 6 but one just got married and moved farther away, so now I have 5 players. A couple people have expressed interest now and then, but I thought 6 was already too much, and they've been pretty cool about it. Having been in games with 4, 5, 6, five players is my favorite by far.

I've never really turned anyone away, but it has gotten a bit out of hand. I mostly DM for my kids and their friends, which just keeps growing. When I finally hit 4 groups of 7-8 kids each, I called a truce and got some of the kids to try DMing. Two of those groups have since collapsed back into my groups, but 10 kids have split off and are running a campaign with 3 DMs and 7 players. I really wish them luck, cause they need to succeed cause I can't keep up with so many games without burn out.
