I had an idea about the spllfire ability. The spellfire channeler prestige class gets an ability to drain a permanent magic item. IT gets the caster level in spellfire levels, and the item becomes unmagical for 24 hours thereafter. A gray ioun stone costs 25 gp and has a caster level of 12. Spend 500 gold on ioun stones, and you'll never worry about getting spellfire levels ever again.

Do grey ioun stones still exist in 3.5? They're not in the DMG, as far as I can tell.

Bah. By the time you get that ability, you have a lot of cash.

Just pay the 1,000 gp and get a 1st-level Pearl of Power (or several).
