Mottuls Raid Defeated

With the loss of the FF the Mottul force was cut off from the anticipated reinforcements and quickly defeated. Many nobles were captured and held for ransom while others made desperate attempts to flee Eidos and a few actually were able to flee off the island by jumping over the side.

Though the king is dead his son remains alive and will claim the throne supported by most of the noble houses.

For Fina’s steadfast support of the ruling family and extraordinary efforts in the defense of Eidos, she was granted more land and seams to be in high favor with the King.

For your roles the King has bestowed the honorary title Defender of Eidos upon each of you. A mostly useless title that come with only one benefit, for the next few months and possibly years you are on the ‘A’ list for celebrations and official events. Only those with the most sincere political ambitions have anything to gain from the title.

You are the talk of the town, so to speak, for many months following the main battle. In Pelion (Fina’s lands) and the Crown Lands you are recognized on sight by most of the population ( renown +4 in this area) and every one in Eidos has heard of you (renown +2). You also hear rumors that you are quite infamous in areas of Mottul (renown -2) and that some of the political factions in Eidos are none too happy with you for helping reinstate the King’s line.

You are however also awarded one magic item each to be created for you by the King’s personal mages. This magic item can be up to 50,000 gp in value (ref gets final approval) and can not be used to enhance an existing magic item.

In addition, Fina declares that you shall all receive a share of the spoils (standard practice to reward those who have shown exceptional valor or value during times of war) for your service to her during the conflict. As is customary the award is made after the last captive is ransomed. It took Fina a few years to finish the process but it proved much in your favor owing to the importance of some of the nobles you captured on the FF. Each of the PC’s’ are awarded 100,000 gp as your portion of the spoils.

Fina also offers each of you a medium sized estate with hereditary title in a location of your choosing (this is where you get to write up your estate - the more you put into it the more you get). The estate must be within the land she controls but otherwise you are free to place it as you wish.

We will pick up 15 years in the future. Age your PC’s and cohorts as appropriate and apply any age modifiers. You may wish to provide a history of your PC for the last 15 years (see my e-mail on this subject).

Chris, I don't recall the email about aging 15 years. Can you resend that or post it here?

Thanks,

Chris,

Instead of one item worth 50,000gp, would it be possible for Draeca to get two +5 cloaks of protection (each worth 25,000gp)? One for her and one for Aura? Do you know if a cloak helps aura in dragon form? If not, I might look for something else of comparable value.

Here's Draeca's writeup for the 15 year period. Draeca took leadership for her last feat. Let me know how she did converting captives and if you have any other comments; then I'll finalize the writeup.

For her part in expelling the forces of Mottul from Eidos, Draeca received the holding of Jihan on the northern edge of Pelion. This holding was left vacant by the death of its lord, Count Fethern and his daughter and heir at the New Year’s Court debacle. As a celestial, Fethern was long lived and had no other relatives so the holding reverted to Duchess Fina.

Draeca’s interest in Jihan was more for its significance to her patron Marquilla than for any other value. Jihan is a town famous for its gardens and fountains but of no great renown and the rest of the holding, while of the rank of a county, covers the Jihan mountains and is relatively poor as its mineral wealth was exhausted by the middle of the Age of Archons.

However, the heart of these mountains contains a place of special significance to Marquilla: the Sapphire Lakes, a series of high mountain lakes at the tree line where Marquilla dwelled before she was an archon and where later, she created a retreat for herself and a hospice for her followers who needed physical or spiritual healing. It is a place of fabulous natural beauty from the snowcapped mountains reflected in the clear waters to the many lake nymphs. The Sapphire Lakes area has been maintained since Marquilla ascended at the end of the age of Archons but has lost some of its significance without her.

Draeca took the holding in order to restore the lakes district as a place of healing where Draeca could heal those harmed in mind or body by the Mottul invasion. She has additionally established a temple in Marquilla’s old palace.

Draeca split her gift of the king’s magic item between herself and her companion Aura, each receiving a cloak of protection of the finest kind. With her share of the ransoms and other loot, Draeca shared half with Aura and used the remainder to restore the Sapphire lakes district and establish the temple and its staff.

The income of Jihan county she has applied to the restoration and the strengthening of the county. The county is out of the way and was little effected by the recent invasion but many its folk fell in defense of Pelion and Draeca has used county funds to establish a fund to raise war orphans which includes an education of their choice and establishment in a trade or profession. The remainder of the county funds Draeca splits between a defensive militia and non-military operation of the county. She does not use county funds for personal purposes aside from maintenance of a modest household in Jihan and another in the lake district.

Draeca gave Aura every opportunity to part ways but Aura has grown very fond of Draeca and her companions and has chosen to remain with Draeca for now. While Draeca was still settling affairs in Jihan in the immediate aftermath of the campaign, Aura took in three orphans and began to train them as paladins to Marquilla.

When Draeca established the temple to Marquilla in the old palace, she asked Aura to be the temple priestess and established a charter for the training of warriors (as paladins under Aura) and priests (as clerics, taught by Draeca and the priest Kirrik). The temple has graduated 25 paladins and 12 priests in its 13 years and has 45 students at present. Draeca treats Aura as an equal in all matters and as the leader of the temple.

Between Draeca’s renown in the recent invasion and her considerable diplomatic skills, Draeca has had good success in establishing the Sapphire district as “the” place to go for a quiet retreat. One can find peasants rubbing shoulders with princes from all over Eidos. Draeca’s formidable healing skills have cured many, as have her counseling skills but additionally she has strived to promote Marquilla as a patron among the influential as well as convert all she can to the path of ‘good.’

On that score, Draeca spent some effort among the captives in the recent war before their ransom trying to convert them from service to Mottul and the dark gods to Marquilla and a more noble path. She had some success on this score. [Chris, let me know if the success was minor or more significant. She’ll provide a place for the converts in the sapphire district. Don’t forget Draeca is a half-fiend and feels it is important to demonstrate that fiends can be good. If necessary, Draeca will remit the ransom lost by converting captives instead of ransoming them from her own share (not Aura’s portion, just her part). She is also +18 on diplomacy and will goose that another +2 with eagle’s splendor when proselytizing. I’ll write up a little on this once you let me know how effective she was at that.]

Draeca and Aura travel frequently to Fina’s court and to the holdings of her companions from the Mottul war. She travels less frequently to the King’s court but does not miss any significant occasion. Her exact presence at the king’s court depends on how much the new king takes after his father. If he maintains his father’s ruthless bent, Draeca keeps the relationship proper but cool. If he is receptive to Draeca’s teachings about Marquilla and a more noble path, she will spend much more time at court.

In addition to restoring the Sapphire district, Draeca spent much of the early post-war years traveling Fina’s lands and Eidos curing people. The temple is open to all for curing and asks only a donation commensurate with the petitioner’s ability to give for the maintenance of the school and temple.

Some brief thoughts on Princep and his 15 years

I'm running a bit short of time these days, but here's a quick list of the things that I'd like to accomplish:

1). Princep, Gel, and Leonus are all pathfinders ... I believe that Princep has the most skill levels in Portal Knowledge and would like to gather the remaining Pathfinders in the lands and re-establish the order and use Castelleon as the HQ.

2). Spend 1/2 of my 100,000 on military improvements to Castelleon ... details to come later as I have some time.

3). Spend the other 1/2 of my 100,000 on my ancestral relic.

4). Select Gloves of Dexterity +6 (36,000 gp) as my "50,000 gp" item.

5). Continue to perform my duty as "protector of the royal family" as all good mystic warriors do ... which in my case means continuing to "protect/look out for the well-being of" our friend Azz as the leader of my order and Fina have directed me to do.

That's all I got for now.

Magic items

(Chris informed me that both Aura and Draeca qualify for the king's magic item).

Draeca is taking +5 elven chain dragonrider armor. I modified this from the Draconomicon's +1 dragonrider plate. it doesn't have the energy resistance but has the rider skill bonus. It seems to me that it prices at around 35,000, well under the 50,000 amount.

Aura is taking +7 bracers.
