Dire sharks?

Okay, maybe I'm missing something, and I admit I don't know the rules, but at the top of the MOTW preview, it states that the druid can't choose a dire animal shape, yet the last paragraph states that choosing a dire shark form would be perfect for long sea travels.....

At 5th level, a druid gains the spell-like ability to turn herself into a Small or Medium-size animal (but not a dire animal or a legendary animal) and back again once per day. The druid may adopt only one animal form per use of this ability.
but....
At 12th level and beyond, she can take the form of a dire animal.
:D

I think it's smart to limit wildshape so you don't gain extra HP from a new form with a high constution. A barbarian can rage for an extra 2 hp per level, but if you have a low Con druid that goes into a powerful animal form, he could gain as much as 10 hp per level, and he wouldn't be winded afterward. That's a little overpowered. Also, it's just easier to not have to do the math.

And if you turned into a creature with a lower constitution (say you're a Dwarf Druid with a 20 Con who turns into a parrot), would you want to lose most of your HP?

Very good reasoning, Rangerwickett. Likewise, I'm not really upset (despite what I said previously) that druids would be able to get the wolverine's special rage ability. It's not a gamebreaker.

I don't see what the big deal is. So you don't get the hit point benefit of the increased CON. You do get the bonus to Fort saves, right?

Something like that, which isn't really a goof, isn't going to keep me from buying the book.

I don't think Grendel said he wasn't going to buy the book Col. just that he needed to complain about an a error he thought he found ;)

Rage=special ability=get STR and CON bonuses
