1) there's a whole list in Defenders of the Faith

2) i think you could, (if the 'dungeon' in question was big enough), but i wouldn't want to risk it being killed

3) some horses are that ornery, i'd allow for a handle animal check :D

1) There's a list in Defenders Of The Faith.

2) A paladin's mount will follow him into a dungeon, because it's a magical beast and it understands what's going on. Normal horses, however, do not like enclosed spaces, and will not willingly go underground unless specially trained. (Besides, how are you gonna get it down the stairs? ;))

Donkeys or mules are useful for carrying baggage in a dungeon, but they're not usable as mounts in battle.

3) Horses certainly are that smart, and can be trained to accept only a single rider. If the animal doesn't recognize you, I suppose you could make a Handle Animal check to make it let you on anyway, but I'd call that a DC 20 at least.

If you're talking about a paladin's special warhorse, it's even smarter-- at least as bright as a slow human. The warhorse knows its master and his friends, and if it doesn't like you, there's no way you'll manage to ride it. (You couldn't use Handle Animal in this case, because the paladin's warhorse is a magical beast.)

Second, where you can take your mount is really between your DM and you. You can take it anywhere it can fit, but horses are notorious for having problems with marble floors (awfully slippery, especially at speed) Pit traps are terrifying (four broken legs anyone?) Ladders and steep stairs are a huge barrier.

One rider horses are a real world phenomenon, not quite sufficiently broken horses who only respect one human. A PC could have specified this beforehand as a role playing hook (seen it in tons of books) but if he never hinted at this before then he's just being a whiner. As always, what the DM says goes.

I being the DM in question, I will say, we'll skim that list in DotF fnext time we're both in easy reach of it, and you can choose a suitable mount. I'll plan the quest (I promise not to kill you on it . . . at least I won't plan to kill you . . . ), and if you succeed, you'll get the mount you want, if not, you'll get a borring old warhorse after a 'plan B' quest.

By the way, the dungoen in question is RttToEE. I'm taking a break from custom sci-fi settings to run a module. My first module, actually.

so i am allowed to bring a warhorse into a dungeon
You are allowed to do whatever your DM says. If he says your warhorse doesn't want to enter the dungeon, that's that.

In general though, yes, a paladin's warhorse will agree to follow its master anywhere. Be aware that horses have trouble on stairs, can't climb ladders at all, and are very difficult to rescue if they fall into pits. Also, dungeon ceilings are usually fairly low, so you probably can't ride the horse inside. You certainly can't pass through a doorway on horseback, unless the place is constructed to the proportions of giants.

Most of the time, a warhorse in a dungeon is more hindrance than help. You may be better off leaving it outside to watch over the rest of the party's horses.

mounted warriors is one of the few times I suggest, go small. Be a gnome of 1/2ling and ride a medium sized mount. you can take those bad boys anywhere your lard butt human companions can go.

Halfling riding a wardog. :)

Could do some funny things with the warbeast template in Monster Manual 2. Find a critter that likes underground and train it...

War Dire Badger...oooooooo...War Carrion Crawler.
